We were visiting Nelson to do some genealogy research and were looking for some lunch near to the library in the centre of the town. We came across this Bistro and thought we'd give it a try. What a good choice - the food was piping hot and delicious and we both chose Sticky Toffee Pudding - mine came with a large jug of cream, my wife's with a large helping of ice cream. Mmmmmm !! Delicious - can't wait to return to do some more research in the library with a visit to the Ace Centre. Highly recommended.Thank you for your great review! We're glad you enjoyed your visit to the Courtyard Bistro and our sticky toffee pudding! We look forward to welcoming you back soon :)

First, the good stuff. The staff welcomed us in, made us feel very relaxed and were attentive and friendly throughout our time here. They deserve a five star review of their own. Unfortunately the description of this restaurant as vegetarian friendly with vegan options is not correct. There are limited veggie choices and no vegan mains at all.We adapted the pizzas to be vegan for my partner and dairy free (allergy not choice) for me.Two pizzas took nearly 40 mins to arrive. The place wasnât busy though a large party had placed their order just before us so we expected a bit of a wait but this seemed quite long. A couple who ordered a minute or two before us were served ten minutes before we were and no one else was waiting. My seafood pizza had lots of tasty fishy bits and the tomato sauce was tasty but the base was soft, lacked flavour, including salt and more like part cooked bread than pizza. My partnerâs mushroom pizza was okay, same base issue. We were hungry so we ate them. We wonât go back as we canât really get a meal here. Which is a shame as a relaxed bistro is just perfect for Burnley right now.

Licensed vegetarian and vegan restaurant; also occasional live music and film venue. Established for thirty five years.
This is an interesting concept - acoustic cafe that caters for vegetarians - but it was disappointing. The menu looked interesting and we were really looking forward to eating there during the Rhythm and Blues Festival but despite wanting to support vegetarian places, the standard was poor and not value for money. The young staff didn't appear to know what they were doing, bit chaotic in the kitchen and serving. System not obvious - we went to the kitchen to order when no one came, and were told to take a seat. Could it be that Jim has taken his eye off the ball?? Nice place but a bit tired and not too clean. Won't be going back, which is a shame as there doesnt appear to be any other vegetarian specific restaurant in Colne.
