Not cheap eats at around 100 euros for two (including wine) and at best average. Service was confused, no bread or water offered, though delivered reasonably quickly when requested. A goat's cheese starter was very salty and the pancake in which the cheese was cooked was too thick and leathery. A fish main course - duo de St Jacques et gambas flambees au muscat yielded two coquilles and three gambas - not a lot for the price. The lamb main course was good enough but (my fault for choosing another parcel?) again, wrapped in a pancake of sorts. An apple tatin wasn't what I understand a tatin to be - surely the pastry should be on the top of the apples and it took some cutting through. Coffee was good and the wines reasonably priced. If you are very lucky you might be able to park nearby otherwise you may have to trek a fair way. My French friends agreed with my reservations but we all thought that it was worth another try at some time in the future.

We stayed in Meze for a week and ate at Neptune 3 times. The waitresses are excellent smiley and efficient and we loved the food. Particularly the red mullet and mash with an amazing sauce, the mussel starter and the light and fluffy rum baba. All in all a consistent and enjoyable experience every time and good value.

We had a fabulous evening here. Just five minutes away from the busy and lively town beach, this offers an altogether calmer and more sophisticated experience without breaking the bank. The service was excellent - prompt, polite and helpful - from start to finish. Th food and wine were delicious; we each tried a different set menu and can highly recommend both. Unsurprisingly, the fish was particularly good. Finally, the setting is lovely. As night drew in, we had a wonderful view of the lights of Sète, twinkling across the lagoon. Definitely worth the visit - thank you.

We continue to frequent this cosy family-run restaurant regularly. Always a warm welcome, great food and wines, and great value for money. The home cooking is second-to-none. The service is always friendly. prompt and nothing is too much trouble. One sure sign of its popularity is that it is always full and visited by locals and tourists alike. We can recommend La Rive Gauche unreservedly. It is a special place to visit at any time of the year.

We travel to Meze by boat and having explored the port thoroughly, we walked five minutes into the market square and found this new, exceptional lunch (and maybe some evenings) experience. We ordered the plat d' jour and a salmon salad, and wow, were we surprised. First came a mis en bouche, a short glass with three layers, pesto, brandade de moreau, and the bottom layer was a red pepper tapenade. Our plat included grilled tuna, mackeral and seiche served with a cream of cauliflower coulis, roasted onions, carrots and potatoes. The salmon was drizzled with delicate green olive oil and fresh orange and grapefruit segments and their juices. accompanied by a quinoa terrine of chopped veggies, fresh herbs and a delicate marinate topped with fresh pesto and generous shavings of parmesan cheese. The flavors and textures were devine! we decided to order a starter of Bouzique oysters and watched the chef walk to the covered market and buy them direct from the producer. They were fresh, plump and divine. We are unabashed foodies and this great place is such a find, by far the best meal we have ever had in Meze. Plus it was a great value, lunch for two including wine and the oysters was 30 euros!

We stayed in the hotel and took some friends to dinner here who have been in France for several months, they indicated that this was the best meal they have had, and we agreed. The hotel prides itself on local sourcing and offers a good menu range (although I personally would have liked to see more shellfish).Dishes arrived in good time and were well served with full explanation, using terrific, fresh ingredients based on availability. The wine list featured mainly local wines and was well explored, despite this the meal was a very reasonable price. If you are in Meze or the surroundings, highly recommend a visit

What we love about Sète is its unpretentiousness. It is NOT "cute". Rather, it is still an authentic, working fishing port. Thus, while all of the canalside restaurants are in the tourist trade, they haven't transformed the place into something ridiculously twee. We had put Delices de Jade on our list of possible lunch restaurants, and when our hotel recommended it, we felt even better about it. It was December 21, and it was warm enough not only to eat outside, but to do so in a T-shirt and jeans -- I would have worn shorts had I been prepared. So I have no idea what the place is like inside. The owner and the staff are really extremely friendly and welcoming. I decided to go the whole hog: A Sètoise thing called a tielle, which is a kind of octopus pie. I don't know what the best version of a tielle should be like, but I think that Delices de Jade's version is probably only pretty good, though its accompanying salad was very good. I also had 6 oysters on the side which were quite good though they could have been more chilled. As a main dish I had the bourride de lotte, which was fantastic. I thought I could squeeze dessert in, but, as in all restaurants in France, the dessert portion was enormous: an excellent pear-and-chocolate clafoutis with three huge dollops of chantilly on the side. The 3-course menu was 27 euros, plus 9 for the oysters a la carte, plus 4 for a draft beer. So 40 euros total. I think that's pretty darn good. We'd try Delices de Jade again the next time we're in Sète.
