We were recommended this restuarant by our airbnb host, and so glad we visited. We made a booking on the day before we wanted to visit, and requested a table in the 'upstairs' of the restaurant. We were given a lovely table by the window (I would recommend booking as it was very busy, even on a Wednesday evening). The menu was plentiful, with lots of choice for me as a vegetarian (and a separate vegan specials board too). There was a special offer of a meal and a glass of wine for a set price which a couple of us did, with the others ordering from the main menu (and we shared a bread board for starters). All four of us loved our meal, the portion sizes were generous without making you feel stuffed. There was an extensive drinks menu, catering for cider, wine and gin drinkers. The abience was relaxed and friendly allowing us to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed. I would definitely visit again if I'm ever in the area.

Fresh, local food with an honest approach served in a welcoming yet eclectic setting. Mercia was born out of a shared family passion with three simple ideas at itâs core; high quality local produce, wholesome food and great service. Youâll find us in Wirk
Popped in on a Sunday morning whilst visiting the town... friendly staff and looked like a good menu. We only had a cuppa and cake which was good but expensive (4 cuppas and 4 pieces of cake = £24!)

Ate here for the first time and had high expectations. It didnât disappoint and the food was lovely and the service was good. We had canapés and cocktails to start and then three courses followed by coffee and petit fours. The reason I didnât give it 5 stars was because we ordered coffee with our dessert but the coffee and petit fours came a little while before desert so it spoilt the perfection and we had to wait while the coffee was getting cold before we could enjoy. The beef in the main course was served on a bed of caramelised onion, unfortunately there was just too much of it, it was very strong tasting and overpowered the whole dish. Other than that we had a lovely evening and would return again .Dear Jill,Thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review, we really appreciate it. Thanks too for the pointers on service times and your beef dish â weâre always trying to retain the highest standards possible.Best Regards, JadeOwner, Stones

We took a last minute long weekend break and stayed at The Hodgkinson Hotel in Matlock Bath. We decided to take up the option of dining in on both nights, this was a great choice. The food was varied, tasty and well cooked. We would have no hesitation in recommending The Hodgkinson Hotel & Restaurant.Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. It was great to meet you and we are happy that you enjoyed your last minute get away here at Hodgkinsons. We always appreciate guests feedback and feel especially honoured when they choose to stay and dine with us more than once. We hope you will return to explore the Peak District more in the future.

Family run restaurant, over 34 years in business, good food, well priced, awarded 5 stars again by environmental health
On a grotty evening weather-wise the spacious main downstairs dining room felt warm and inviting. The menu doesn't win any awards for novelty but if you are after straightforward dishes that are well prepared then you won't be disappointed. I had a quite substantial prawn cocktail (served on a plate rather than in a glass) followed by a decent sirloin steak (which came medium rather than the medium rare I ordered), some excellent baby roast potatoes and a rather overcooked selection of vegetables. My wife enjoyed some notably tasty whitebait followed by two sea-bass fillets, simply pan-fried.The wine selection is limited but it was such a pleasant change to find all the bottles priced under £20. Our bottle of rioja was perfectly good.

Recently subject of a spectacular renovation and extension, stunning contemporary dining rooms blend seamlessly with old English charm maintained beneath the low slung and beamed ceilings in the original Farmerâs Bar. Our casual dining menus feature a wea
My wife and I cycled over to the Cock Inn for lunch and it was the first time we had tried this newly renovated establishment and we certainly weren't disappointed. It is a very popular, busy place but nonetheless the staff were welcoming and the freshly prepared food was excellent. As the food is freshly prepared there can be a little wait but it is worth it.My other advice to anyone is always book a table.Just one comment for the management to consider is for a secure bicycle anchor point(s) or parking area. Whilst one of your boundary fence posts did the job, I'm sure a better arrangement could be sorted just like the electric charge points for cars.A big thanks to all the team.
