Like previous reviewers, we've visited Sotirios in its various guises but Sunday lunch was only good. Plenty of veg, meat was ok Roast pots were hard. Unfortunately it was noisy, seats too high (still, as it was in Paul's day) and the plates needed to be hotter.Perhaps the restaurant was too full as desserts came out wrong and more upsetting we were charged twice for some of them.As it was a family do we probably won't return.

My first ever visit, despite having lived in the area for more than a decade. I was the guest of old friends who travelled 70 miles to get here. I knew from the moment I entered the front door that a wonderful evening was in store. The drawing room, with its open fire and collection of books, reminded me of a country house. It might have been a perfect location for a murder mystery. Instead, I simply mirdered the wonderful food on offer! Lovingly prepared; beautifully presented; novel combinations of flavours; ingredients as fresh as the air outside. But served with enormous warmth - nothing was too much trouble. The table had been meticulously set and the timing between courses was exactly right. The quality of Clinton's food is unparalleled anywhere on the Marsh, while it would be impossible for anyone to make a stranger more welcome than did Lisa, whose explanation of each course as it arrived was reminiscent of the practice found in top French restaurants. And I don't normally eat desserts but here I demolished the lot - and after a plate of duck and the trimmings that was as good as any I have ever tasted. It was my very first visit; needless to say, it will not be my last!.This is a gastronomic experience - and how!

Our menus are delicious, wholesome and healthy with locally sourced ingredients at their heart. Vegetarian and vegan options and a focus on incredible local fish direct from fishermen we know. We are huge supporters of English wine, we have more than anyw
We went with high expectations and were disappointed. Our welcome was friendly and the bar area well appointed and attractive. But the service was amateur - the carafe of white wine for the first course arrived after we had eaten it. Our waitress had to check the name of the red three times and then could not find it. The wine waiter solved the puzzle. It was good ,but expensive for what it was.Our first courses were ok -slightly tasteless asparagus with hollandaise, average mackerel and carpaccio. Our steaks were not rare the first time as promised , but the second were better if very expensive at £28 a piece and not very tasty. We were not impressed by the explanation that ribeye steaks should not be cooked rare as my son is a former restaurateur who has served dozens of rare ribeyes. My wifeâs warm lobster salad was not warm and the lobster pieces very small. My daughter in lawâs gnocchi were average. We did get a discount because of the steak ( without asking for it or expecting it) which we appreciated. But the whole evening was a great disappointment. Dear BellDavidI am sorry that your experience was so poor. It should not have been. Could you contact me so I can be clear when you dined with us so I can understand more about what happened. Traditional English Seaside pub right by the beach built in 1733.
Food was what we expected it to be, for a small restaurant area there was a big choice of menu.It was delicious and the food came out speedy, which was a blessing as we had two hungry small people with us. Decent garden size and I like that the restaurant area is separate to the drinkers. The only thing I would say is I thought it was quite expensive, but then I guess itâs a seaside town, so thatâll be why, so we went for the burgers as they were the cheapest, next visit I think Iâll go for the sausage Yorkshire pudding, that sounded delicious. Also, as we left, nature called as I walked into the toilets I was greeted by an unflushed log and mess on the floor, didnât seem like staff regularly check the toilets, but can not fault the food and the atmosphere, we would come again.

The Hope Anchor is one of the more notable hotels in Rye being the inspiration for the Traders Arms in EF Bensons Mapp and Lucia books and also the Gay Dolphin in Malcolm Savilleâs childrensâ books. It is even mentioned briefly in the famous Dr Syn books.
We had afternoon tea, the cakes, scones, biscuits etc were lovely but sadly let down by the service - went with Groupon but not worth paying full price. Thank you for your review I really wish you could have come to see us before leaving as I would like to try and find out who served you as we have different people working on different days in the tearooms. I am sincerely sorry that the service was disappointing but unfortunately I can not find out who served you. If you would like to contact the hotel with more details or email us that would be much appreciated.
