We had visited the Canadian War Memorial and the associated guided tour. We then set off looking for a snack lunch. As we came into Avion we spotted the restaurant on the corner. We managed to park nearby. It was quite late for lunch but the proprietor was very accommodating and agreed to keep the kitchen open for us, unlike this country! The set menu which we were presented with was not what we were looking for although there were some lovely things to choose from on the menu. However on the chalk board behind us there were other choices. Two of us had large tiger prawns cooked with a type of risotto. The other two members of the party chose Ris de Veau, which they thought was veal with rice!! Not so, a big learning curve for them, it was actually sweetbreads in a cream and mushroom sauce! They said the dish was delicious, but had they known what they were choosing would not have made that choice!!! Sometimes it's best not to know! The staff couldn't understand a word of English and struggled to understand our French, but they had a good sense of humour. The bill was quite big as this is quite a classy restaurant. We wished that we hadn't already booked a table at another restaurant for the evening as the cote de boeuf looked fabulous. In all a good find.

Via Mercato was not our first choice, we came here because another place was closed. At first we didn't even recognize it as a restaurant - from the outside it looks more like an Italian traiteur (deli shop). The restaurant is huge and not very refined : plastic tables, paper place mats and napkins, as in a factory canteen. The food (individually prepared in the open kitchen) is the same : huge portions, not bad but not very refined. Not very expensive either. Quick but impersonal service. If you're going for a quick and filling meal, this is the place. If you like something more stylish, go somewhere else.

Dommage.Nous attendrons avant de renouveler l'expérience.

The colour purple got my attention, already from the outside and later during our lunch.Crowded at noon. Fast, polite service. Almost no waiting time. Good quality food and plenty of it. If I also drank a bit? Yeah maybe: a kir to start with, then red wine, then white wine, then again white wine and to end with: red wine. Expensive? Don't know, I did not have to pay, we were a group of 34; but if you want to know: check their website.La Fiesta is also famous for their dinner/dancing. Will I go back? Probably yes... for dancing !

We were in Lens and were tired and hungry after a long day.We got in without a booking and our waitress was very friendly and patient with our terrible French. The pizzas are well priced and offer an interesting selection. Having chosen, we ordered and were asked if we wanted to eat straight away - we said yes and, to their credit, the pizzas arrived promptly. However, the chicken on my partner's pizza was clearly undercooked and actually raw in the middle. We pointed this out to the waitress, who at first didn't seem to see what the problem was, but she did eventually take the pizza away and return with a non-dangerous version. The pizzas were ok. Not the worst I've ever had, but far from the best.Oh, and the restaurant was really cold, too.

Marc Meurin is a local lad (he was born in Lens) and he loves fine produce. The two Michelin stars is always bursting with projects and ideas, and when he heard the Louvre was opening in Lens, it just seemed obvious to take the reins of the restaurant at
Really enjoyable, good value, very well prepared interesting food, with an attentive team looking after us.I am ashamed to say we were pleased when they brought us the menu in English.A really pleasant end of day, a spring evening, looking out on the trees and watching the sun set, after a rather sombre time exploring the battlefields around Arras.

Four of us on Friday night, looking for something good to eat having had a rather poor meal on Thursday found this place on good old Google. The car park was full, good sign, the restaurant was filling well, we tend to eat earlier than the French, so there was some atmosphere in the place. The menu was on a large A frame black board brought to each table as needed, a bit quirky but it works. The selection was good and the food was excellent, oh yes and the wine was pretty decent as well.I think all of us would be happy to go there again, even the designated driver (me) who had to forego the very good wine.

I'm tempted to rate this more highly but don't want to give other visitors unrealistic expectations. It's a "chips-with-everything" restaurant, but the cooking is sound and the chips good, and the service is friendly. There is a reasonably-priced plat du jour and a choice of other dishes. The place was full when we arrived, but the staff contrived to make room for us and looked after us well. Not a bad watering-hole if you are visiting the new Louvre, but it would be as well to get there early or reserve - other visitors have discovered it!

We had a wonderful evening meal on a really hot night. The food was great and a very reasonable price (despite the problems with our currency!) Service was OK but were serenaded by a duo playing some very nice music We also had our breakfast there but that was a big problem. I think they were trying to manage breakfast as they would an evening meal but I think there were too many chefs and not enough servers - definitely the wrong way round. Get that balance right and I am sure breakfast will be equally as good as the evening meals

This is a ch'ti themed restaurant decked out with lots of rustic knick-knacks, specialising in faluches which I understand are a local speciaility, with similarities to pizzas. Faluches aremuch more bready than pizzas and more generously decorated. The variations offered know no bounds so there is bound to be a combo to suit all tastes. Le Pain de la bouche (which I assume to be local slang) is great fun and will ensure your belly is full for the rest of the day. Definitely not for those on a diet! The place gets very busy at sunday lunch so a reservation is recommended. The small number of staff do a heroic job of keeping everyone happy. I never did work out whether their ch'ti accents were for real or for entertainment but I loved the fun, rumbustious atmosphere. Reasonable selection of beers!
