On the south side of the Alps, Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy. Since the climate is mild year-round, the area is filled with Mediterranean vegetation and exotic plants. Lake Maggiore was featured in Ernest Hemingway's infamous novel, A Farewell to Arms, when the protagonist and his lover must row across the lake in order to escape the Italian Carabinieri (think police in military uniforms). Here's hoping you won't have any run-ins of that nature.

Fantastic food here with a very talented chef. Well worth a visit both for dinner and very reasonable lunchtime menu. They have lovely outside area but we preferred the tables inside as the interior is really well done.

Our first lunch after our arrival at Stresa and we were so glad we went there. The restaurant opened at noon for lunch and we were the first table. We ordered the foie gras, 3 house made fresh pasta dishes and a bottle of wine to share between the two of us. The chef plated all the orders in half before serving us. We really appreciated the efforts and definitely kick up the rating. The food was very good. The service was friendly and thfe food came in a timely manner.

This restaurant is very popular and booking essential. Time should be left to find a car-parking space as well! The view is towards the east over Lake Maggiore. Service was attentive and the locally made breads were excellent. The octopus leg was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. The raviolis were good as a secundi. The main tempura vegetable and fish dish was huge and the tempura slightly on the thick side. The other main course was slightly under-seasoned for my taste.A pleasant evening as acouple enjoying nice food on the lakeside

Beautiful location and very extensive hotel with grounds that seem to go go on forever on the shore of Lago Maggiore. There is something for everyone here. Formed rock pathways snake through beautiful gardens and rocky outcrops, past the wellness centre and on to the kids play area and multiple swimming areas beneath rock pools fed by waterfalls. It really is amazing. The hotel with many bars and restaurants almost take a back seat to everything else on offer.A must visit if you are looking to stay a while or simply dropping in to break the drive, round trip Lugano - Lugano which only takes a couple of hours anyway.Dear Mr Jock,it's really amazing for us to feel your satisfaction about your hotelstay and about our restaurant!thank you for your beautiful words about our garden, our services, our Location and position: we're really happy to know that you appriciated everything and we hope to see you soon.we wish you a nice day!1your sincerelythe teamCamin Hotel Colmegna

Villa Pizzini serves typical food using only seasonal ingredients and sourcing local fruit, vegetables and meat. Every meal is home made and prepared while you wait to guarantee you the best culinary experience. Our speciality is the homemade pasta that w
We booked ourselves into Villa Pizzini for dinner, bed & breakfast as part of a two day walk from Stresa to Orta. We very much enjoyed the "small 4 course menu" which was full of interesting flavours using high quality ingredients complemented by some delicious Italian red wine. It's expensive, but the whole area is, and when you take into account quality and transportation to the top of a mountain then it's not overpriced. Our room was quite small and minimalistic but light with windows in several directions. It's wasn't luxurious (the corridors and dark green metal doors gave the accommodation a hostel like feel) but it was comfortable and beautifully quiet. Breakfast buffet the next morning comprised again high quality ingredients - really excellent freshly made coffee, yoghurt and fruit juices, tasty cheeses, cold meat and bread and delicious homemade cakes. The downside was that the quantities were rather measured (except for the cakes which were plentiful) presumably because there were only 4 overnight guests and the pieces of cheese and the bread looked like leftovers. Still there was enough to eat but there was a still feeling of having to hold back. The owner watched over us for the duration and with only one other couple having breakfast the atmosphere was one of "hushed whispers" and not very relaxing. A shame. As an aside, the views from the top of Mottarone are wonderful but the mountain top itself, like many ski resorts in summer, looked sad with ongoing maintenance work etc. The walk from Stresa to Mottarone proved less strenuous than we thought (we are regular hillwalkers) and route finding very easy as it was waymarked all the way but the route down to Orta was not well marked so a GPS would be handy. Overall a very enjoyable two days.

Nice restaurant in the pedestrian area with a small outdoor area heated by lamps. The staff is nice, the food super and well presented. We had vitel tonnee, veal with tuna sauce typical Piedmontese, and gnocchi with pink trout, a very interesting and unusual combination; then we shared Rossini filet and lamb with thyme, both meats really tender and juicy. The chocolate soufflé was excellent too. Portions are middle size, as you expect in a fine restaurant. The price is on the high side. They have wine by the glass or also half bottles. They take credit cards.

The Restaurant "Cardini" is located in Someraro, on the hills of Stresa, and overlooks the Lake Maggiore with a charming view on the Borromeo Isles and the surrounding mountains. The restaurant has a large dining room with 70/80 seats and a terrace where
we out a lot, but when on a short break we rarely go back to the same place twice.great first meal.great second meal.the pasta with pears, and the lamb were standout. I would have preferred the lamb a little bit pink. but hey - it was great.it is a long way out of town. it took us 40 mins to walk there (up a steep hill) - but i guess that is what taxi's are for.lovely view. would be worth going for the view.oh and by that way it is great value for money

Dear Guests, the starting idea of this restaurant embodies one of the themes from the popular movie Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet in 2001, that is to keep a curious eye on the world and take pleasure in the sim
This is a delightful, small (~8 tables) restaurant that is well off the beaten track, but well worth the trek. Glorious food, attentive, efficient, multi-lingual and friendly service. The chef takes pride in periodically coming front-of-house to greet the diners. If you are fastidious or constrained in what you eat then I suggest you check the menu before entering, as it is very limited. Happily, my wife and I are unpretentious and are adventurous when it comes to tasty, well prepared and presented food. We had no problems meeting our desires from the menu (including veal tartare, seafood ravioli, monkfish, tuna, cheesecake, panna-cotta).We were happy to pay ~170â¬; for a starter, a first course, two mains and two deserts, washed down with a bottle of reasonably priced champagne. There is a 5⬠p.p. cover charge, but you do get a bread basket that is varied, âmore-ishâ and abundant. If it is within your budget, DO NOT pass this charming restaurant by.

If you are travelling near Milan, you can easily find this restraunt. The choice of plates is not so big, but the speciality of this place is risotto. You can try tris of risotti, or choose only one. I have tried risotto with porcini mushrooms, it was good, but i did not like that they added the oil with taste of truffel. It gives to risotto a different taste. The rest of food is good, company style. The plates are enormous.
