Chateau de la Cazine

The Michelin restaurant failed to impress us, but the interiors with views over the lake were very nice. For me the main attraction of this place is the striking contrast between the rural setting of the South-Western France, with goats and tractors, and an elegant building, which dominates the surrounding fields. The place is very suitable for quiet walks in the idyllic countryside. We saw no people around and even met a little dear 30 meters away from the hotel.

Le Bistrot Mel-Lou

We had been staying with friends in Le Souterraine who recommended this restaurant to us and actually took us there for Sunday lunch. Our friend goes there regularly with her group. It was extremely quirky and the food was lovely, well cooked and very attentive waiting staff. It's a very long time since I have been in such a friendly restaurant. Our friends know the owner Stephane and he came out to see us. He spoke very good English as he had worked in England and it was smashing to be able to converse with someone regarding his restaurant and food.We had the three courses (very reasonable) and a very long chat with Stephane and left.I can't recommend this restaurant enough, we will definitely be coming back again should be in the area again. It is in a sweet little town right opposite the little school, it made our last day there very enjoyable.

We have eaten here on four occasions and never been disappointed. The Menu covers all budgets and the food is plentiful and excellently cooked and presented. A special mention for the serving team must be given as the service is outstanding. Lovely surroundings too.A really good dining experience.

Your dining options are limited in La Souterraine, especially so on Monday nights as many restaurants are closed. Luckily, La Gondole sur le Toit rescued us with a two wonderful fresh salads prepared and served cheerfully even though we were visiting near to closing time. Recommended.

We ate here for the first time in December after watching a film at the Eden Cinema nearby. It was quite late but the Creperie was still very busy. The service was rapid and the local cider drink excellent. More than satisfactory for our needs

Finding it on TripAdvisor, I had to use maps to find it. It is tucked away just a few minutes walk from the centre - it's just off the roundabout where Maison de Pain is. We wanted a light lunch, but when we got here we weren't sure that they did anything savoury. We had to ask, it's a small Tapas menu, but it's lovely food, such a change from what you can normally get. It's a little oasis of calm in the sunny back yard, the wine is excellent, the prices all very reasonable. The downside is that they aren't good at marketing, I've ended updating & putting photos on their listing on here! Don't mess about, just go on a sunny lunchtime, you won't be disappointed...

Outstanding service, even down to pouring a perfect pint - the attention to detail here is truly impressive. Large entrees, and, fortunately, the main courses were not as huge. Had the menu – which included entrée, plat, fromage and dessert. Enjoyed the local traditional pate au pommes de terre, filet of zander – sort of like a pike – and salad of crayfish tails, must have been around 25 of them, plus assortment of cheeses - about half local - and cake. All were very nicely prepared and not overly seasoned. Rather small restaurant indoors, probably no more than 30, so almost essential to have reservation – several people who came in after 7:30 pm were turned away without reservations. Definitely Anglophone friendly – but this restaurant is not just a touristic place, as about half of the diners were local and presumably regulars as evidenced by the welcome they received. The town itself has several interesting buildings but not worth probably a major detour to tour the town - this restaurant, on the other hand, merits a detour from wherever you happen to be.
