Reviews on European food in Karuizawa-machi, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The waterfalls, hot springs, and mountain views in Karuizawa make this Japanese town a popular destination for nature lovers. Hike an easy route to the tumbling waters of Shiraito Falls, then head to Kumobaike pond to relax in what legend says is the footprint of a giant. When you tire of the great outdoors, the Kyukaruizawa Ginza shopping district is a wonderful place to spend some time—and some yen.

Looking for a coffee and something to eat we headed into Sawamura. Was a little chilly so sat upstairs which was very comfortable. Wasnât expecting too much but was impressed with my Latte, definitely the best that we have had in Japan so far. Also ordered toasted ham & cheese panini which were delicious. Coffees were 495 yen and paniniâs 480 yen. They also had lovely looking bakery items.

Since we have had Japanese food for a few days, it was nice to have a change. We were attracted by the decor of the restaurant, which sits well in Karuizawa. It is supposed to be specialised in roast chicken and we were not disappointed. The meat was tender and juicy and we ordered some sausages which were also good. Good value for money too!
We made the reservation a day in advance via Hoshinoya Karuizawa and we are quite looking forward to it. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by staff. Appetizer, salad, soup, dessert, fruit, tea, and coffee are all arranged in buffet tapas-style. The main dish is a crepe made from soba flour with fresh tomatoes and cheese and it serves around 15 to 20 mins after they took your order. The staff take good care of customer food restriction as when I mentioned I do not want cheese, they ask very specifically is another food restriction I have and explain in detail that what is used to make of the crepe. Food is super yum and crepe tasted very well. The restaurant was full at 8am that's why the reservation policy is quite strict. It;s a health and excellent way to start our day at Karuizawa! Key points to note: - Reservation is required one day in advance. - Time for July/Aug: 7am to 9:30am (last order) - Price: 3200 yen (Tax & service charges are excluded)
