I had the pleasure and honor to meet the owner and chef of this restaurant at an exhibition of Lapland specialties food fair in Tarnaby. They had reindeer and moose sausage and smoked fish on their stand. I was very much intrigued by both products and entered into a long conversation with the young chef. He too like the son of the hotel where the exhibition was being held as a true passion for food.We met during the evening and continued our discussions on special dishes and foods crossing ideas with me coming from the extreme south of Europe .The next day i visited the restaurant, and must say that these lads are real professionals. Everything is very well organized, the food excellent, with prices reasonable and sometimes cheap if compared to others.. a pleasant find so far away from home
Near Hemavan, (5-min drive by car or expensive taxi) in the settlement of Klippen, is this excellent atmospheric country inn with a restaurant serving outstanding fine Swedish-Sami dining. SÃ¥nninggÃ¥rden is a charming rustic farm building dating from the 19th century, set in the quiet beauty of the Swedish mountains. There is also accommodation, in rooms sleeping 2, 3 or 4 people. In summer the outdoor terrace offers fine views over the valley. Groups of up to 25 people can be accommodated.Restaurant open Wed & Thurs from 17:00, and Fri-Sun from 12:00.The delicious, beautifully-prepared dishes are made from local ingredients, including game (reindeer, deer and birds), mushrooms and berries. Starters include quick-cured Arctic char served with three different sauces: apple, Dijon and dill, gurpi (an egg cooked at only 65 degrees for several hours) with whitefish roe, pickled cucumbers and parsnips and crisp bread, and smoked elk with roasted onion, tomato marmalade and creamed chanterelle mushrooms.Main dishes (our choices) include marinated beef steak with cauliflower puree, butter-roasted potatoes and red-berry sauce, and braised forest bird (ptarmigan or snow grouse), liver, pork belly and whitefish roe served with red cabbage puree and white wine-marinated root vegetables. My delicious dessert was âhungâ yoghurt (rich and creamy) with pureed rhubarb, meringue pieces and an oat crunchie. Served by charming young waitrons, our meal was exquisite, if expensive, but highly recommended, even if it is off the beaten track. We very much enjoyed the cosy atmosphere and quaint Swedish country décor.
A bistro in a mountain setting with wonderful views of the mountains.
