Gosh - at the best of times French cuisine can flatter to deceive. This place gave it to you straight between the eyes. Yesterdayâs chips served with a sparrowâs arse of a chicken breast fried to its pitiful death and served in a teaspoonful of nondescript sauce. Surely a yardstick for not giving a **** about your customer

Like the other posters, it's strange that La Sardaigne has only just featured on TripAdvisor. I have to visit Le Havre for a couple of days on business every six months or so and found the restaurant on a monday night when not a lot else is open. Now it's my default place for dinner on each trip, having a steak or pizza on each night for variety. Always made to feel very welcome, and they even found me a table when packed during the music festival a couple of years ago. A normal restaurant in a tourist place can just shrug and say sorry, but not here. The steak, sauce and frites meals are very good. The pizzas are done in an electric oven, but it's hot enough to get the base nice and crispy still. I consider the value very good for the quality of the food. In France price can often skyrocket and quality be unchanged, but not here. The owner and head waitress are charming and treat you like an old friend, and they do this with everyone that visits meaning there's a warm atmosphere of people passing through the port, and local regulars.

My American coworkers and I went in search of a restaurant that would be open early enough for us. As most people know Europeans normally dine late in the evening. We found this little gem at about 6:45 pm. They don't open until 7 pm. We asked if it would be possible to dine there before 7. They happily accommodated us. What a treat we were in for. Fantastic food, bread, and wine. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. We got along fine even though we don't speak French and the staff does not speak any English. If in Le Havre, don't pass by this gem!

Surprising, creative, tasty... a great experience for an evening with friends or simply a table for 2. The chef has been quite imaginative in designing the card and the taste will just impress you. The place is actually tiny and could get busy quickly. Make sure you reserve a table. You can choose between 2 different menus according to your budget and even mix the entrees. The restaurant is easily accessible, located downtown and you can park in the street nearby. A place for gourmets!

We have eaten here many times on our trips to Le Havre and it has been super so 2 weeks ago my husband phoned to make a booking for tonight (10 Dec) which was taken and accepted by someone (unfortunately) we did not get a name but trusted that this would be taken and noted. Having look forward to this as part of this trip we turned up only to be addressed by a very sour faced guy telling us there was no booking and that (in English) he did not speak English (person who took the booking did speak English..). A customer in the restaurant translated for us but only to be rudely told no booking was made. Firstly perhaps this person would like to see our phone records which we have of the booking, secondly this person needs to learn some manners, there wasn't any hint of any apology, and thirdly there is a much better restaurant around the corner. Very friendly with super food which we would definitely recommend to all to use instead of yours..

Would have loved to dine here but unfortunately we had our little dog with us and we were not allowed inside. Seeing the decor and how the waitress was dressed in a special traditional.costume..i think this is really a nice place to eat

Excellent food, well presented and reasonably priced. The restaurant is quite small, but the owners serve up really nice dishes from a tiny kitchen. Really friendly and welcoming. 3 course menu for â¬29. Hand written bills!

You might easily walk past this restaurant but it is quite informal and welcoming within (better than it looks on the website). We had the five course Menu d'ichite at â¬35, starting with an amuse bouche, followed by perfectly cooked tempura de langoustines aux parfums d'ici et d'ailleurs, accompanied by an absolutely delicious mayonnaise. Another diner had profiterole d'escargots au camembert et pommeau for a starter. This was followed by a house sorbet, with Calvados apple jelly (le fameux trou normand), a main course of filet de boeuf au camembert rôti et sa crème au calvados (the fillet steak properly cooked blue), or magret de canard aux saveurs du Périgord (although marginally over-coooked, with a slice of foie-gras and a delicious sauce). Then a choice from six local cheeses (some could have been a little riper), followed by dessert: an excellent soufflé glacé Bénédictine et chocolat blanc and a lovely tarte sablée abricot pistache (with apricots and pitachios, not too sweet). With a good bottle of Crochet Sancerre rouge, plus pastis and Kir Normand to start, the bill came to a very reasonable â¬151 for three. Excellent friendly service. A very enjoyable relaxed meal. At this price it's five star.
