We have driven by this place many times and never realized it is a perfect German gem if you are looking for an authentic German dinner. Our neighbors, who are new to the area mentioned they stopped in this restaurant and raved about the food. Of course we knew right where and headed there for dinner on Friday night. As you walk in and look around it is extremely clean and decorated in German decor! Starting out with a glass of German Riesling we perused the menu and didn't know what try, so we went for the best choice which in our minds was the dinner for two. Oh my goodness the presentation was phenomenal when the waiter appears with this large sliver platter of a variety of meats, German fries, saur kraut, red cabbage, dumplings....we didn't know what to try first. Check the menu for a dinner for two, we highly recommend it!!! I thought I stepped back in time and my grandmother was cooking when I tasted the German fries, potatoes fried in a skillet, just like my grandma made on her stove in her log home. Of course you cannot even put a dent in this tray of food! The two large take home containers were filled to the brim. Enough food for us to eat lunch and dinner on Saturday and still have leftovers. Definitely suggest if you have a taste for German food this is the place for you!

Going to Chcolaterie Stam is really a Treat, with capital "T"! This chocolate shop, with chocolates coming from the original shop in Amsterdam, is an elegant European "get-away", right under your nose! Next to the old post office on Pennsylvania Ave in downtown Glen Ellyn, this is a place to indulge your craving for lovely chocolates. On this January day, instead of gelato or chocolates, I enjoyed a mug of hot chocolate.

Four of our party of six arrived early; they graciously seated us and brought water and bread (white and whole wheat/crusty and delicious, olive oil and Parmesan). While we were waiting we enjoyed the mussels with marinara and the baked brie with lingonberries. The wine selection is quite extensive and there was also $5 wine choices by the glass. All six of us enjoyed our entrees: veal praga, filet medallions of beef, scallops, shrimp and flounder. The beef was in a delicate mushroom sauce, served with shoestring fries and asparagus. The praga salad of diced vegetables in vinaigrette, topped with cheese was served in martini glasses. Tres elegant. Desserts we sampled: pumpkin cheese cake, bread pudding, chocolate mousse torte. Parking lot next door.
