a lovely place to stay , our room was amazing. fresh and clean. and you could see that detail was taken with every little task.the housekeeper please praise and her team as our needs were met at every level. when people save up to go away and spend cash that has been put away for a treat and you get the results that you wanted then working for this treat all year round is so worth it. the poached eggs oh my gosh are cooked to perfection. the tea served is not just a pot of tea it is a reward to the mouth. try the kippers with your poached eggs, if that does not take your fancy then try the poached eggs with just toast. the butter adds delight to the toast, thank you to all members of staff. for everything. we have enjoyed getting spoiled. we now return back to work but know when we start saving up again for a treat this place Eslington Villa will be what we aim for on our next holliday. as we drive back to Manchester we take fond memories and Genuine smiles with us. thank you again to everyone. We were a group of ten friends whom I had invited to celebrate our Golden Wedding. My wife and I had been before with my daughter's family and really enjoyed it.This occasion was also excellent. We had a table to ourselves so it felt quite special. Drink orders were taken quickly and whilst the wine was served quickly the beers weren't. Apparently the keg needed changing but I did think we could have been informed earlier as there was quite a delay. I had to chase up the non delivery which wasn't good. We had several bottles of an excellent merlot plus some excellent real ale.The food on the other hand was excellent. The chef's table was groaning with food and had something for every taste. I particularly enjoyed the seafood. Most of us felt full even before ordering our main courses. A wide variety of main courses were chosen from the belly pork, roast dinner to the burger. All were prenounced delicious and were all reasonable sized portions.Desserts were also excellent and a reasonable choice. Coffee followed and again there was a good choice. The service apart from the beers was very well paced and served in a friendly professional manner. We will certainly return as the lunch felt special and was in my view excellent value for the quality of the food and service provided.Dear NIRS3,Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review for us.Firstly you have my apologies for the delay in the beers being served to your table this should not have happened and thank you for your patience. I'm glad you enjoyed all our food offerings and felt you had great value with the meal, I will pass on to our team how much you enjoyed their professional service also.We hope to see you again very soon.Kind regardsJohnathan StoreyBar & Brasserie Manager

The food was all good, interesting modern takes on old dishes. The staff were excellent, very helfpul and friendly, and happy to accommodate our need to eat and get away to the theatre pretty swiftly. Only downside was the noise: the place needs acoustic attention, as even at 6pm when it was only partly full, we could hardly hear each other because of the way the sound bounced around the restaurant. A real shame, so much so that some of our party said they would not return despite the very good food.

It isn't quite the "authentic Italian" that the review in the Financial Times suggested, but it wipes the floor with most high street Italian restaurants. Following the FT's advice, we had the meatballs polpette. Excellent. The risotto funghi was also better than most. A good Primitivo, better than many. (Nice with the meat balls.) Pity it was down to small bottles of Prosecco rather than something a bit different. Italians have a much better choice of sparkling wines that we see in the UK. And don't even think of asking for Prosecco in Bologna.Excellent seafood pasta, with no attempt to sprinkle parmesan on top. (A crime against cooking that they did try in another Italian restaurant in London recently.) This is the sort of place that you'd love to have round the corner. Good service and a silly price. I mean <£90 for so much good food and wine? We paid twice that the next day for a decidedly average meal.Just one problem, the taxi driver had a problem finding the place. It hardly stands out in the dark.

This was our 4th visit in 3 months and booked for my birthday. We ordered 6 tapas between us I chose my 3 favourite, meatballs, patatas bravas and romesco chicken. My partner had cod fritters, calamari and meatballs. The chicken was skin on and a seemingly disproportionate amount of skin to chicken, unlike previous times the chicken had no skin. When the table was cleared I expressed disappointment and pointed out all the skin. There was no apologies only a comment that the recipe had changed from breast to thigh and cooked skewered! Thigh meat tastes different so I dont think it was but my comment was dismissed. If the recipe was changed I think it should be fully described on the menu particularly regarding skin. This person also advised that a previously enjoyed dessert is kept frozen and could be available on my birthday... incorrect!Lastly and we could forgive this if nothing else was amiss. Dishes come one or a couple at a time, waiting for all the food to be on the table first served is cold. It may be a small kitchen but ive seen smaller cope and serve hot food.May be a while before we go back!Dear Imas52,We are sorry that after your visit yesterday evening you felt the need to leave us a poor review. This is exceptionally disappointing for us as it is our first “poor” review out of the 90 reviews we have received in the 7 months we have been trading. There seems to have been some confusion regarding the Romesco chicken dish that you ordered. We have always used chicken thigh from the day we opened, as we feel it is the best type of chicken to use for tapas. The first chicken dish we had on the menu was “ chicken skewers” and these were made using “ skinless” chicken thigh. We changed the dish to the current “ Romesco chicken” in June and for this we use “ skin on” chicken thigh. You state in your review that you have visited us 3 other times in the last 3 months and that last night you ordered the chicken as one of your “favourites”. From this we come to the conclusion that you have ordered this chicken every time you have visited us in the past and had no previous issues with the skin? This can only make us think that the portion of chicken you received last night was a little skin “heavy” compared to what you have eaten on previous visits. We apologise that this wasn’t to your liking but we do hope you understand, that we cannot control the amount of skin that the chicken grows, in the same way that we cannot control the amount of fat the pig lays down on the pork belly that we serve. With regard to your comment about dessert, this has confused us greatly and we apologise if we have misunderstood what you have written regarding this. We do not freeze any of our desserts after we make them, and do not use “ bought in” frozen desserts. We pride ourselves on the fact that we make everything “ in house” and the only frozen things we have on the dessert menu are our ice cream and sorbets ( which are again, made in house). From what you have written we can only think that you had one of our “ desserts of the week” on a previous visit and have somehow assumed that this was a frozen dessert pre bought dessert, that would have therefore been available again on your next visit. We do allow our customers to request and pre order certain dishes that they have previously enjoyed from our blackboard specials and had you requested this “ previously enjoyed dessert” for your birthday visit we would have happliy tried to accommodate this for you, in the same way that we accommodated the request you made to sit on a specific table on the night of your visit. Our dishes do come out one or a couple at a time from the kitchen. Tapas should be eaten as it reaches the table and as this is how it is served in Spain, this is how we serve it at Boquerones. The dishes come out as and when they are ready and each dish has a different cooking time. We cannot therefore hold all of the dishes back in the kitchen until everything is ready as this would then almost definitely ensure that some would come out hot and some cold. Sending everything “ at once” would then also slow down the entire nights food service and make each table wait at least 20 minutes for their food. Which, when some of our dishes take 3/4 minutes to cook, this just doesn’t make operational sense to hold it all back.We are truly sorry you did not enjoy your visit. We do hope that this response clears things up for you and we would have loved to have discussed all of the above with you last night, if you had told us at the time about all of the things you were unhappy with. This could have then ensured that you left us feeling happy, that we had taken your feedback onboard, that we had fully apologised to you and had tried to resolve your issues. If we do not know we have problems, we cannot fix them and we would much rather do this face to face at the time they arise, as I’m sure 99% of the other restaurant operators in Newcastle would. You say you may not return to us for a while, during that time if you go somewhere else and something goes wrong, tell them at the time, it really is better for everyone all round.Team Boquerones

My husband and I visited The French Quarter for a late lunch. We ordered from the lunchtime set menu, 3 courses for £11.99. We both started with squid, very tasty, I followed on with fish which was beautifully cooked. My husband had chicken with mash in a blue cheese sauce which looked scrummy and we both finished with creme brulee which was delicious. The portions were fairly small but it was a lunch. The quality of food was very good. Our waiter was excellent, friendly and informative. We had a leisurely lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it, We will definitely return when next in Newcastle.
