Funchal, the capital of the Madeira archipelago, was declared a city in the 1500s, and became an important point between the old and new worlds. The laid-back city owes much of its historical prominence to "white gold," Madeiran sugar. Today Funchal is known for its appealing temperatures, wine and crafts. Top spots to visit include the open Worker's Market, Blandy's Wine Lodge and the Sacred Art Museum. Friendly locals, walkable streets and cheap taxis make the city easy to get around.

What a wonderful evening to end our visit to Madeira. We had the suggested menu which included any starter, any main course, any dessert and coffee + all were complimented with matching wines and a lovely Madeira wine with our dessert and, all for 37⬠each. The staff made us feel special, the chef came out to speak with us and shared his style of preparing his Risotto. The ambience was ideal, the decor was very calming and the view from the terrace ended out at sea. All in all a very lovely evening. We will happily return again and again :)Dear Guest,First we would like to thank you for your visit and for the lovely evaluation. We really appreciate your words and thank you for share your experience. It is very rewarding for us.We will always be ready to receive you. Best regards,Il Vivaldi.

Located on the Levada dos Tornos between Curral dos romeiros and Camacha (Second tea house). This small Tea house serves English cakes, a selection teas, and coffees, and a selection light snacks and lunches for you to enjoy either in our garden or tea ho
My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Madeira and this afternoon - together with 3 other visitors - went on the excellent âPalheiro Gardens (see separate Review) and Levada Walk Tour organised by Blandy Travel. At the end of the relatively short Levada Walk, we descended a rather steep but well protected path to the Jasmin Tea House. Besides the resident cat & dog we were the only patrons and chose a nice table in the outside area. We were promptly served and my wife and myself thoroughly enjoyed our Cappuccinos and generous slices of Apple and Coffee Cake.Everything was reasonably priced and the decor is most welcoming. As such, I would have no difficulty in recommending the Jasmine Tea House to other visitors provided, of course, they can find the property as it is rather off the beaten track!Thank you for your review, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed your walk to us, and had a lovely time with us. We hope that you will be able to revisit us next time you are here on Madeira. So that you might find it easier next time we do have a direct bus service from Funchal, the number 47, that leaves from the seafront near the cable car and stops at the entrance to our tea house. We are on the Levada dos tournos between Monte, and Camacha. If you need any other assistance, you can find a map and contact details on Tripadvisor or Facebook.Nick

Fine Wine merchant, specialist in small portuguese wine producers of superior quality. Wine Bar, Portuguese Wines ,Portuguese Cheeses, Charcuterie and regional Tapas.
Visited here on holiday and fair to say there is absolutely no visibility of the charging policy. Weâve had beautiful wines in Madeira in very classy restaurants but none have come close to the prices charged here. This is a wine shop that serves tapas. Tasty yes , expensive - no extortionate! â¬19 euro for some cheese and a further â¬19 for chorizo and bread - really??? 1 bottle and a glass each of wine bottles and some nibbles â¬80. By far and away the most expensive place weâve set foot in around Funchal and we are comparing to Crisâs place and Armazem do Sal, both of which are outstanding. Word of warning - before you touch anything ask the price!Thank you for your opinion. The comparison with Cris's or Armazém do Sal is for us an indicator, that you didn't understand our concept. It's like comparing "pret a porter" with tailor-maid. Our food is tailor-made to the wine you chose, simple but high-quality food. I understand that possibly I was not able to communicate properly the concept. By the way, we will revise our recently, last month, changed prices. So accept our apologies and our gratitude.

We went to Chrisâs with some expectations, based om good reviews, but this was still a positive surprice. The chevre was great, the grilled seabass was excellent and the cheesecake with Camenbert was a winner. The best thing with Chrisâs was still the service, highly professional, nice and relaxing. We will returnDear TripAdvisor member,Thank you very much indeed for your wonderful review. Reading your thoughts on your recent visit to Cris´s Restaurant, has made us very proud and thank you so much for sharing these with us and TripAdvisor.Thank you so much for your recommendation and thank you for all your support, we look forward very much to welcoming you back soon.Best regards,The Cris´s Restaurant

This is a quirky and hip burger place which provides very good food at reasonable prices. There were not a lot of tourists when we ate there but a lot of locals. We couldnât get a table outside but it was interesting to eat inside as it has some great drawings on the walls and the decoration was different from the norm. The burgers were tender and juicy and the chips were very good indeed. In some dishes the burgers do not come on buns but that didnât limit our enjoyment of them. However, if you like your burger in a bun, it is worth checking when you order. I also had lime mousse to follow which was tart and sweet at the same time. A great palate cleanser. The service was good even though they were very busy and it is also great value. A definite if you like a good burger and chips.

I dined with two other family members in September, and we enjoyed this restaurant very much. We all had seafood dishes which were fresh and wonderful. Mine was three pieces of seafood served over a butter-rich black (squid ink?) pasta and it was amazing! Anyone visiting this island should try this restaurant.

3 people out of 4 were happy with the food, however, the food took over 1 hour to be served(I estimate 1h and 20minutes). There is no joke. We were with a 9month kid and the wait killed us. Fish of the day was not good. The risotto with seafood was very good.Dear Customer Thank you for wasting your time writing your poor comment and scorning a very low score. It is difficult to accept your review because you not being completely honest.Since you and group arriving at the restaurant you have had all the support of our staf from beginning to the end of dinner.-Our food is all freshly cooked -Your fish of the day was not to your liking because we waited 20 minutes to serve because you been away during that time to try to calm down your baby.Your Dinner since you arrivale takes 38 minutes to cook during the time that you are way.-"The wait killed us" just as you said because the baby did not stop crying and you feelt embarrassed at the other customers.Dear sir your absence from the table during you food was send to the table bot had too be send back to the kitchem since your and wife were not there ,with the rest of the group waiting for you to start dinner. As you saw that night we had the restaurante full off customer therefor you need to be a litle more patient because we love to serv you perfect prepared meals how is our habit. We sory you had a bad experience in our restaurant and will do everthing to rectify it.We are aware that we offer the best service and food possible to thouse who have visited us to this day ,please call again in future SinceryFranco

Wonderful fresh food in a fantastic environment and a Family warm and friendly service! Bruno and his Team will go the Extra Mile to Meet and Exceed Customers Expectations...
After reading the reviews about Real Canoa we were really looking forward to our meal there. Unfortunately it was a real disappointment. Maybe if we were returning visitors it might have been different. Bruno spent most of the time chatting with the 'regulars' seated outside. Only coming in to see the couple on the table beside us, as they'd complained about their dry chicken. Our service was very rushed (understandable if the restaurant was full).Coming back twice within minutes to see if we were ready to order. The food came quickly but the prawns & chicken was very dry - all the good reviews I'd read about the 'prawns'? We ordered one tiramisu but two were delivered to the table. Pity..

A little gem of a restaurant with a fine dining experience, but not too expensive. Service was excellent. We had a 3 course meal with the wine pairing option, which is a great way to explore different wines, matched with your food. We ate exclusively seafood for mains and starter and everything was perfect. Would not hesitate to recommend.
