Daugavpils (Latvian pronunciation: [ˈdaʊɡaʊpils] ( listen); Latgalian: Daugpiļs [ˈdaʊkʲpʲilʲsʲ]; Russian: Даугавпилс [ˈdaʊɡəfpʲɪls]; see other names) is a city in southeastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River, from which the city gets its name. Daugavpils literally means "Daugava Castle". It is the second largest city in the country after the capital Riga, which is located some 230 kilometres (143 miles) to its north-west. Daugavpils is located relatively close to Belarus and Lithuania (distances of 33 km (21 mi) and 25 km (16 mi) respectively), and some 120 km (75 mi) from the Latvian border with Russia. Daugavpils is a major railway junction and industrial centre and lies approximately midway between Riga and Minsk.

Funny to look earlier comments of slow service. On the contrary. Our waitress was young and eager to be in service. Not good in English but everything came what we ordered. Bear and wine was good. Cesar salads were good, filled eggplant ok. Location is perfect by the walking street. So nice to enjoy summer evening and look at people walking by.

We got good reviews from friends who had eaten there previous day - they commended large portions and good prices, so we decided to go there for lunch before leaving city. Day before, we passed by this place not notice that there can eat (recommendation owners to evict the signboard at the roadside), but inside house is cozy and warm.And portions are really big and tasty, even portions from the children's menu are huge - (very delicious self-made fries). We were very satisfied.Of course, it's not a high-end restaurant, but if you want get to know local cuisine and delicious meal, we recommend!

In the beginning we were a bit confused by the fact that our menus were different - one of them was missing several burgers that were mentioned in the other menu. Now it seems like a fun fact, because overall experience here was surprisingly positive.We ordered 2 burgers and 2 pina colada cocktails. Both kinds of burgers ("Dinaburger" and "Fudzijama") were delicious as well as fries and two kinds of dips. Moreover, Pina Coladas turned out to be superb - refreshing and sweet!The bill arrived only at 11 EUR - great value. So if you want to grab a tasty bite in Daugavpils, I recommend this place!

This is a good place to have meals if ou happen to be there for whatever reason. I wasn't very hungry, when I came to visit the fortress, therefore I didn't look for any specific food and accepted proposed day offer. The food was quite tasty. Also coffee was good and tasty, supplied with a chocolate candy and lemon water. The price was reasonable and servicing very friendly and fast.

I was twice in Plaza â once for a business lunch and for a corporate event. Business lunch was OK, nothing special, but portions were generous, food of good quality. Price is on the steeper side, but then, panoramic views of Daugavpils are on menu. Meanwhile the buffet for the corporative party was really praiseworth: immense variety and one tidbit was tastier than another. Eggplant rolls with wallnuts and fried mushroom caps were absolutely delicious. And they serve excellent draught beer. Interior is nothing special, but then, main accent are panoramic views so choose daytime to visit.

Friendly Staff and the typical Cili Pica food also waited in Daugavpils for us. Compared to the Riga Cili Pica ( Olimpia) the Staff was very friendly and even made jokes in English...a very nice experience.

I'm not entirely sure how Tripadvisor can call Yoggi Bear in Daugavpils a "gastrobar", considering that it closes at 22:00, stops serving food long before that, and doesn't even sell beer never mind have a full bar. Those reasons were, after all, the reason why we went to this place for breakfast on our last morning in Daugavpils instead of for dinner the night before. Regardless of that though, we came along to sit outside, and a young Russian water came over to take our order. They have no printed menus available; the waiter tells it to you orally, and he didn't speak any English so foreigners visiting the cafe may struggle unless you know some Russian. The options that day were omelette, ham & cheese pancakes, or English breakfast. None of these sounded pretty appealing to me, as I wanted a real meal not a simply stereotypical cafe "breakfast option", but I settled, apprehensively, for the pancakes. The reason I was apprehensive was because I have had them before, supermarket-bought in Latvia and in cafes/bistros in Russia, and they have always had that weird processed American cheese taste.He gave us no prices for anything we ordered, and my cola was served lukewarm with no ice. Not a great start, but the food arrived after not too long a wait, and after a few mouthfuls I regretted being sceptical. Yoggi Bear completely reinvented these pancakes for me, and showed me that they can actually be done well. Definitely the best of these Russian ham and cheese pancakes that I have ever had.My girlfriend's breakfast was not a real English breakfast, not by a long shot. Cherry tomatoes were served instead of greasy tasteless grilled tomato, and for some reason they also threw a lot of red pepper and Parmesan over it as well (both traditional English ingredients, obviously). It also contained Å¡Ä·iÅÄ·is instead of bacon, which would have been a complaint had I ordered it, but she still liked it. Was it an English breakfast, like they had advertised? Not at all, but was it tasty and enjoyed anyway? Yes it was. So be sceptical about how they advertise the food here, but otherwise, actually, even for stereotypical "breakfast food", it was pretty good; the prices ended up being somewhere around â¬6 each, though it would have been good to know that in advance.

Outdoors in the 3rd week of September, just having arrived in Daugavpils we still could enjoy sitting outside as if in the middle of summer! At 27 C we took in the view of passersby, the hot air, the setting at the side of the street at the corner of the restaurant, wooden structures, well-dressed people, beautiful women and nice caring and waitresses. The hamburger was juicy, rich and tasty. Being a Heinz fan, they upon my request organised ketchup when I asked and that is an ice-breaker to me, but also decides choice of restaurant the next time. A fresh, unfiltered beer increased our positive experience before we had to continue our venture, however much more merrily so...!:)

Very cozy and modern place for having coffee,divine sweets,pancakes and also such wonderful thing as lavender limonade.Definitely must visit place in Daugavpils, if you are interested in having a proper meal,some glass (or two) of wine then go across the street to Red Beetle cafe (the same owners).
