With a population of 92,363 in 2011, the town lies on the River Skerne, a tributary of the River Tees. The town is administered as part of the Borough of Darlington. The town owes much of its development to the influence of local Quaker families in the Georgian and Victorian era, and who provided much of the finance and vision in creating the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first steam locomotive powered, permanent passenger railway. Every time Iâve been Iâve always had a good experience. Food is lovely, great value and quality. All the staff are very friendly. Occasionally the service can be a bit slow but only when itâs mega busy. Would highly recommend their blue steak salad. In fact I donât think Iâve eaten anything disappointing. Sunday dinners here are epic. Itâs worth going early to ensure the pink beef is still up for grabs but all the options are lovely. Bonus option of stuffing is included as standard with the trimmings!

We havenât been since the refurbishment but used to come regular for Sunday lunch and always enjoyed it. Todayâs was very disappointing, the meat was tough the lamb, turkey and even the gammon. The selection of vegetables isnât as good as it used to be either. Couldnât cut the parsnips as they were hard too. For the price you pay and the time you have to queue this really isnât worth it and we wonât be back!

We had a lovely meal with friends here recently. Attentive and friendly staff and a good selection of meal choices. The lamb burger on the specials deserves a mention (sorry no picture as was demolished speedily). Tender steaks and excellent fish platter too. Leave space for desserts, no disappointment there either.

We were a group of 7 and all ordered different meals. We decided to have 3 courses each as it seemed excellent value for money. My starter of spicy fishcakes were delicious, followed by chicken diablito which was a generous portion served with salad and three-times cooked chips. Not sure how I managed the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream but glad I did as it was excellent. We were all very impressed with the quality of food and will certainly come again.

The Old Yard Tapas bar is a longstanding independent business in the heart of Darlington Town Centre. We have an extensive Spanish tapas and Greek meze menu, we cater for everyone, individuals to large parties. Bar opening hours: Monday-Saturday 11am-11pm
I held an event at the Tapas Bar last week and everything from initial enquiry to running of the event was perfect. Beccy was amazing at making sure everything went smoothly on the night and I can't thank her enough. I had such great feedback on the event including the room - the Jonny Maracas, which enabled us to have plenty of room for live singer Christy McAllister, food and for guests to mingle. I also came a couple of weeks ago for dinner with my parents and the food was delicious. Couldn't ask for more helpful staff, and will definitely be back for more yummy tapas.

The Bay Horse retains an emphasis on the finer details of a real old English pub, hand pulled local ales in dimple glasses and side dishes served in copper pans. The menu is made up of classic British cooking with a twist & has a strong emphasis on flavou
A most enjoyable evening in this marvellous restaurant made our anniversary. From the outside it looks just like any other public house but inside the Bay Horse is exquisite! From the first welcome and introduction you are made to feel the focus of the staff's attention. Little homemade breads are served prior to the starters. The mussels come as a very good-sized starter and the roasted scallops delightfully presented and cooked. The daube of beef and the partridge were also cooked and presented to perfection. This is food as it should be enjoyed and so much better than almost anywhere else we have found in the area over the last 8 or so years.

The North of England's only Two Michelin Star Restaurant, owned and run by self-taught chef James Close.
We visited the Raby Hunt yesterday for the first time and we were not disappointed! Everything from the service, to the atmosphere, to the decor and of course the food and wine. We opted for the classic wine pairing and in our opinion it is well worth it. Each wine is explained in detail and compliments each course. We were lucky enough to get a signed menu from James as a birthday gift which was amazing. We have already booked up to visit again in the new year. A personal highlight to me was the salad course- I have never tasted anything with so much flavour. If you are considering visiting the Raby Hunt you should do it- it is obviously pricy but as a special occasion/rare treat is it worth it.
