L'auberge du pelloux traiteur

Our village entertains over 65s to an annual lunch, wife and I qualify. This year it was L'Auberge de Villy le Pelloux.Travellers should note it is seconds away from the St Martin de Bellevue Payage between Geneva and Annecy so a handy stop for a meal.A bar & bistro at the entrance, a good sized, pleasant dining room behind. In the circumstances I cannot comment on costs as we were guests. An unusual start without plates! Platters of a delicious foie gras and smoked salmon of generous size were passed around with bread. The entrée was scallops which were certainly the best I have had in a long while, accompanied by an excellent St.Veran white. This was followed by filet mignon of veal of quite exceptional quality and like the scallops cooked to perfection, accompanied by an excellent Vacqueras red which also accompanied to perfection the following plate of local cheeses. Strangers to the area should note that this is the heartland of the Tome de Savoie and the Reblochon cheeses, it is hard to find the latter worth sampling far from its home as it does not travel well. The desert was a selection of "amuse bouches" of quite exceptional delicacy. The chef was presented to us, astonishingly young but evidently highly motiivated and as highly talented. This restaurant is only about 6km from our home so I am asking myself how we have not eaten there before!I unreservedly recommend it!

We visited the hotel because of the restaurant. The room was clean and comfortable. The safe was not attached and it could easily be taken in a bag. No instructions how to use it anyway. The whole hole had a bad, stale smell emanating from the kitchen. The restaurant was a disaster. The food was lacking imagination. My starter consisted of overcooked, deep fried egg, a very small piece of pata negra and a coffee spoon of chopped, pickled tomatoes - dull. The tuna tataki with noodles was extremely salty and when we complained, we were told that everybody is saying the same, but the chef wouldn't like to hear it. The main course of beef was drowned in the same fish sauce and noodles as the tuna tataki and had the same taste and structure. The millefeuilles desert was a pile of sugary meringue - totally inedible. We had a 1999 bottle of Grand cru Bordeaux wine. I asked the bottle to be decanted, but the staff refused and we had to drink the sediment of this Euro 140 bottle... In the morning I asked for two fried eggs for breakfast and the answer was "NO". At the end of the evening we asked to see the chef, but he refused to come, although we could see him wandering in the foyer. He didn't come to see us in the morning either. Horrible experience - avoid this place!

Auberge a la Ferme de Bajole

We had booked a table for a family Sunday lunch; it was a cold grey wet autumnal day and so the dark and cosy fire-warmed room seemed very welcoming. We sipped surprisingly good cold white wine to which had been added a splash of framboise (more summery than autumn - but we could have chosen something more seasonally appropriate) as we made our choices. Two of us opted for the good-value 25 euro 4-course menu which consisted of your choice of five starters and five main courses plus cheese and dessert. We chose a warm tarte au reblochon which was luxuriously creamy and which came with a proper serving of well-dressed and seed-strewn salad and an oven-baked goat's cheese served warm with mashed pumpkin and crispy bacon and sprinkled with trompettes de la mort. For the main course we both chose the honey-roast pork (more 'braisé' than 'rôti' I'd say but tender and flavourful) which was accompanied by a very good vegetable dish (similar to ratatouille but sweeter and more tomatoey) and a golden cheese-crusted garlicky cream-laden unctuous dish of potatoes. The cheese tray was varied and generous but rather surplus to requirement after all those potatoes; the bread was free-flowing and fresh. The best-looking dessert at our table was the so-called 'déclinaison' of pear - a creative selection of sweet things based around the pear - variously gooey, creamy, fluffy, caramelly, chilly and alcoholic. The espressos were hot and strong; a request for a cappuccino was met with some bemusement and we were offered an espresso with chantilly (which went down at least as well as any cappuccino would have). Take cash - they don't accept credit cards.

Located in Haute-Savoie department only about 30-35 minutes drive from Geneva among rolling hills, beautiful green countryside this is a really amazing restaurant. The restaurant is sub-divided into small rooms large enough for a good sized family out for a family Sunday brunch. The menu offers a choice between meat AND fish or meat OR fish depending on your appetite. I went for fish main course. The basket of assorted, fresh, warm breads tells you straight away you have come to a special place. The wine list is really good as is the friendly, knowledgeable service. For good food, value and friendly service this place is unbeatable. The walk outside in the village after the brunch is an added bonus. I would certainly go again and encourage every one who can to do it also. Bon appetit! Just one small point to be aware of - in true French fashion they do not offer vegetarian options

Placed at the Northern edge of the little town of Cruseilles easy parking is within a few metres. On entering one is struck by a cheerful, uncompromisingly trendy and Italian decor this includes high tables and chairs which are surisingly comfortable. The welcome is warm as easily in English as in French, evidently in Italian also as the partner who looked after us came from Bologna which, it should be remembered, is considered to be the gastronomic capital of Italy. The menu is not huge but fewer and better seems to be the order here. The wine list is comprehensive with many excellent Italian wines. My wife selected a starter of Antipasto Misto which she exclaimed delight over and brought me regrets for not having chosen it. A plate of grilled vegetables with generous charcuterie, it looked delicious and by all accounts it was,I chose Carpaccio which appeared with a very fresh looking rocket salad, served with balsamic vinegar and flakes of a anxtremely good parmesan. The meat sliced superbly thin was excellent quality and my regrets vanished! My wife then chose the "Pasta du Jour" with was tagliatelli verde in a "Sauce aux quatre Fromages" her only complaint was that the was helping was too generous!I chose one of the specialities of Bologna, Lasagne Verde which succeeded in living up to my anticpation and even surpassing it.For our dessert we both chose Zuppa Inglese which was I thought a delight, as did my wife though her opinion was that the chocolat content was de trop. In any case it was excellent and refreshing and to be recommended, which I did to another table who did not apper disappointed. We rounded the meal off with coffee, espresso for my wife and ristretto for me. The best coffees I have had outside Italy. The ristretto is perhaps not for the fainthearted, it came neither with sugar nor a spoon I think because the spoon would have disolved. To sum up a small but warm and warmhearted resolutely Italian restaurant serving freshly prepared and superbly executed food which for anyone desirous of genuine Italian food rather than the Pizza Spaghetti house variety is not to be missed.Negative points? One very serious one, for 36 years we lived 5 km from Cruseilles and the proprieters waited till we have moved away before opening, this is unforgivable! Thankfully to retain ties with our adopted home village we return fairly regularly. On a lesser key the the cost of a meal is a little higher than one might expect in in a small French town but on sampling the quality this is easily explained.

Second time there and again this was even better than I remember. We had the Delice Menu which is more than enough even if you are hungry. I can recommend to add the cheese option if you are a cheese lover. They have a great and tasty number of various cheeses. We took the wine menu as well and the choice of wine was perfect and worked well with the food served. Surroundings are romantic and classic. The service is just as you would like it in any quality restaurant - perfect. Menu EUR69 and wine tasting menu EUR 32, cheese option EUR 12.Dear Henrik B,On behalf of Marc le Roux, our kitchen chef, we would like to thank you for your loyalty to our establishment.Thank you so much for this great commentary. Nice pittoresque restaurant with local ingredients: real 'terroir' style. Meats from local cows (Charolais, Limousin, ...). It is located close to the church of the village. The village is calm and clean with a real sensation of 'welcome': paved? Street restored recently, spaces for pedestrian walks...The restaurant has a nice terrace and friendly staff. The kitchen opens ar 0730pm for the dinner. The desserts and cheeses are also made of local products. The wine list is nice but there is only one local red wine, the others are from other French regions. Add one or two more and then You ll get all my stars.

That was an office Christmas dinner, so the place sounded right with enough place to accomodate groups and formulas that sound fiendly to share. But the result came as disappointing: too much noise, too hot (because of the broilers), too smelly. When you go out, your clothes seem like you will never be able to wear them again. The meat is ok, the fondues are average. For 60 CHF per person with wine but no dessert, this is not what I call good value.
