Reviews on European food in Chesterfield, England, United Kingdom. Chesterfield is a market town and borough in Derbyshire, England. It lies 24 miles (39 km) north of Derby and 11 miles (18 km) south of Sheffield at the confluence of the rivers Rother and Hipper. Including Whittington, Brimington and Staveley it had a population of about 103,800 in 2011, making it the second largest town in the ceremonial county after Derby. Archaeologists trace it back to a Roman fort built in the 1st century AD, but soon abandoned. Later an Anglo-Saxon village developed. The name derives from the Old English ceaster (a Roman fort) and feld (grazing land). It has a street market of some 250 stalls three days a week. The town sits on a coalfield, which was economically important until the 1980s. Little visual evidence of mining remains. The best-known landmark is the Church of St Mary and All Saints with its crooked spire, originally built in the 14th century.

We stopped over in Chesterfield on the way home from a holiday, we didn't realise that this restaurant is situated on top of a pub, this is not very clear from the outside! We went upstairs and waited for a member of staff to appear, this took several minutes, in fact we began to think it was shut. A lovely woman seated us and took our order, we were the only people seated for the whole time we were in there, although food was taken down to the pub area. The food was really good, but I feel for the price more of the proteins should have been in the dishes, my husband had the Gamberoni and I had the Crespelle di Pollo, I think I probably had about 4 pieces of chicken and my husband had 3 prawns, although they were large. The waitress was lovely, friendly and professional.

I ate here with my wife and some vegetarian friends recently expecting to suit all our dietary needs and was not disappointed. The food was plentiful, fresh and well presented. Service was quick, efficient and friendly and the quality of the food was excellent. My wife an I had the sharing two course meal which at £30 was an absolute bargain! The mixed starter platter was superb with an interesting variety of appetising dishes and the mixed grill platter to share was a mountain of food.I wouldn't hesitate to go again.

A lovely meal on a Wednesday evening. Table for 3, music played at an enjoyable level allowing easy conversation. A good atmosphere, friendly, attentive staff. Great food at all you can eat for £15.99 per person (tapas). Drinks priced reasonably. Everyone enjoyed the food. Would we return - yes. Would we recommend - yes. Also the Lunch time menu is £6.75 with plenty of options - worth investigating! We are so pleased we heard this offer on the radio, we will return with friends and on our own. Extra advantage is that there is a car park too (which is free to customers).

To be honest I have never liked the Red Lion in any of its guises over the last 30 years. It has recently changed hands again so felt that it was worth a visit again.Nice decor, great location but trying a bit too hard. It all seems a little pretentious. Plenty of staff about in the bar area but the service was poor. We had only gone in for a drink and the staff sermed to concentrate on the diners. The drinks were also expensive. Sorry but not my cup of tea so will continue to avoid it but don't let me put you off as the decor is very good and it is spotlessly clean.Dear 693glynfThank you for taking the time to leave us a review, i am pleased to hear you like the new improved decor which we are continuously working on. However i am surprised to hear of your disappointment, i do wish that you had brought this to our attention at the time of your visit. Customer service is our number one priority, as you can see from the majority of our reviews we usually exceed customer expectation. I do hope you reconsider your decision to return to the Red Lion, we hope to welcome you back soon. Kind RegardsCara SpenceResident Manager

Been here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed by either the food or drink.Lunch or dinner I have always enjoyed. The burgers are fantastic I always have the black and blue at £9.99 .I always order a portion of onion rings at £3 they are brilliant The pizzas are yummy. Last night for a change I had the sirloin steak £16.55. Beautifully cooked and tender my husband had the steak and ale pie at 10.55 which he really enjoyed.Service with a smile and very curtious. I have only a couple of small gripes sometimes the bar staff are very pushed and it takes a while to order but it's worth the wait. The other one is the tall tables are a little. uncomfortable to eat from if youare sat on the back you have to sit forward to reach the table. None of these put me off revisiting. Thankyou for your honest review, we do consider all points and I can understand the eating situation on the back tables! You can always book early with us to be seated in our dining area which is serviced and not in our casual bar area. Got lots of offers and menus up our sleeves, so keep checking back with us! Many thanks

"Deliciously Derbyshire." Being proud of Derbyshire we use the finest locally sourced ingredients to create delicious food. Visitors to the Tickled Trout in Barlow are guaranteed a warm welcome, relaxed surroundings and a great choice of top-notch food. I
Visited the Tickled Trout as part of a large party. From the outset the staff were very friendly and personable and coped without difficulty in serving all our group on time with delicious food. Food has an Italian influence and is imaginative, flavoursome and utilises local and British produce. I had the Tickled Trout main course which was particularly tasty. As Iâm not from the area, I stayed overnight in the Little Trout cottage which is next door and run by the owners. Lovely place, tastefully decorated, clean and warm with thoughtful touches.Would thoroughly recommend.Thank you for writing such a great review for us! I am pleased you enjoyed staying and dining with us, it is handy having accommodation next door! I hope if you are in the area again you will call in and see usBest wishesChris

Italian/Sicilian restaurant open since 2017 run by a family from Palermo. Ciuri Ciuri Is the only restaurant in Chesterfield where people can try some of Sicilian specialities dishes.
How this place gained the No 1 Italian restaurant in town has to be a mystery that would baffle Columbo. We decided to celebrate our anniversary with dinner here. it was mid week and we booked an early meal 6.30pm. When we entered the restaurant we were shocked by the heat in the room. It was like a Turkish bath. We sat down and I had to take my jacket off. My shirt was already sticking to me, When the waiter came I asked him to turn the heat down. He replied "I wish". I was ready to walk at this point. I told him to open the front door and prop it open. He did this and the heat lowered to a point where it was bearable. We ordered mixed ante pasta which included arancini which to my best knowledge are little bite sized risotto balls wrapped round mozarella, crumbed and deep fried. What we were served was one deep fried cricket ball sized arancini that was burnt on the outside and cold on the inside, the other antepasto items were equally unimpressive. For mains I chose the scallopini vitello, veal cutlets in a mushroom and marsala sauce. The veal was shockingly tough and the sauce was bland to the point of being without seasoning. This was sheer amateurism. Whoever was cooking the night we visited is simply not good enough. Thanks for spending your time to writing a review to us.I'm really sorry to read that you had a not very good experience with us.To be honest I'm quite surprised how you described my restaurant. to say that our restaurant looks like a Turkish bath is somewhat exaggerated. Some days our restaurant can result a bit more warm then usual but definitely not at that point. due to warm weather we have always kept the heating systems switched off until today. About the arancini we always make sure it's served hot enough, if yours wasn't, I apologize for that and I can promise we will be more attentive before serving. About the veal, I was surprised again, because in that case i cooked the veal and I can 100% confirm that all my dish are well seasoned. You said also it was tough, unfortunately it can happen, but we served this week almost 20 portions and no-one complaint. We use the same quality of veal for almost a year.
