Le Petit Baigneur

Although most clients were eating fish, we decided to have a steak. Service was polite and efficient. There was a good atmosphere. The steaks were good and cooked as requested. We would eat here again if we visit Cayeux-sur-Mer.

Le Neptune

Le Neptune is situated a few minutes walk from both the town centre and beach in the delightfully unpretentious, northern French, seaside resort of Cayeux-sur-Mer.A small establishment, the simple, uncluttered décor perfectly captures a maritime atmosphere - beach shells facing one wall, slivers of grey roof slate like hull planking, laid upon another. We opted for the two course express menu and chose for starters a light, creamy soup made from oreilles de cochon, a leafy maritime leafy vegetable with a flavour similar to sorrel (it grows wild in the Baie de Somme), and a form of chicken pâte; then, for me, a mixed fish casserole in a delicious, slightly spiced sauce, and for my companion a choucroute of cod in a delicate sauce with tender vegetables. The preparation of all four dishes was faultless, presentation imaginative and enhanced by the use of seaside ingredients, most notably, samphire. The supply of fresh bread seemed unlimited and, in the French manner, there was complimentary chilled tap water served in prettily decorated bottles. Wine is available by the glass at a very reasonable 3,25 euros per generous measure.Admittedly, ours was a 'short' menu but the more elaborate meals being served to other diners looked equally delicious.Value for money is exceptional (14.50 Euros 'Express' 17.50 for three courses), and service provided by welcoming, extremely pleasant and impressively efficient staff.Service is not included. Leave a decent tip. The excellent team at Le Neptune deserve it.

A lovely and friendly place for our two families visiting the town and needed to stop for lunch. The food was amazing, very good quality and tasted great! Service was excellent too and very friendly despite the language barrier. We had 5 children between us and they were happy to provide colouring for them and the kids meal selection was good and all the kids enjoyed it!If you are visiting the town and want some lunch then this is recommended.

Restaurant de la Mer BA-QUA-NA

Reviewed By enquest

I visited mid week in late September on a bracing autumn day. At first glance, the sea front at Cayeux seemed closed and bereft of any eateries. We eventually found 2 establishments and selected this one as my companion only wanted a snack lunch.Restaurant de la Mer is centrally located on the front with a pleasant restaurant which appeared to have been recently re-fitted. There is also a covered terrace and serving area on the other side of the road - closed on this bleak day.The welcome was warm and the choice included a fixed price 3 course menu which looked good and seemed popular with the other customers. My companion had a nicely cooked ommlete whilst I ate the sole menuire from the a la carte. The sole was of high quality and presented with a small number of vegetables which complemented without over-powering the fish.Overall this was a very pleasant experience and I would return. I have rated the restaurant as average because of insufficient opportunity to sample the full range of the menu. However, I feel it has the potential to score more highly.
