Bujumbura (/ˌbuːdʒəmˈbʊərə/; French pronunciation: [byʒœ̃byʁa]), formerly Usumbura, is the capital, largest city, and main port of Burundi. It ships most of the country's chief export, coffee, as well as cotton and tin ore. It is on the north-eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, the second deepest lake in the world after Lake Baikal.
Things to do in Bujumbura
Le Beryl is conveniently situated in the city center, between Dimitri Market and Librarie St. Paul. The windows are tinted which provides a bit of privacy from the busy Rwagasore street. The café is spacious. There are always available tables and booths. And the internet connection is great (better than at Geny's). It's a great place to sit for a few hours to get some work done or chat with friends over a hot beverage. The staff is very nice and doesn't mind their customers lingering all afternoon. The only thing that could be better is the food. I've ordered a few things here - pizza, sandwiches, smoothies - and nothing has ever reached the threshold of delicious. It's more on the side of stale and greasy.Still I return to this place for the service, internet connection and convenient location.

We were quite excited to visit the restaurant because of numerous recommandations of friends. However, on a Sunday, at around 2.00 pm we decided to have a couple of drinks and snacks at Geny's Beach but first of all we were astonished about the limited and secured parking space. Especially parking along the Chaussee d'Uvira and also outside of hotels and restaurants is very risky. The restaurant was quite busy and we found a place at the counter of the beach bar. We waited about one hour for the simple dish of fish and chips. The quality was average but however prepared with a lots of oil. Also the order of the drinks took ages. However the price value ratio is quite acceptable but one must have a lots of patience to be served.

During my stay at the Palmeraie (see my review of this gem) I had a variety of their offerings at the restaurant. The grilled fillet was tender, delicious, and perfectly cooked. Service is prompt and efficient. One order that was not cooked as I had asked was promptly exchanged without difficulty. Worth a visit to this corner of town.

delicatessen restaurant (salads, sandwiches and Cheese shop). Cold food.
If you want a quick lunch in a nice terrace, Maison Cremerie is the place. Not a coincidence it is always packed during lunch time, both by locals and expats. Although they have salads and warm dishes, I strongly recommend the sandwiches: fresh bread, nice ingredients, great light sauce. Desserts are also nice. On top of this, the service is quick and friendly.

Lake shore grill & pizza restaurant
Great for family eating out. Big green spaces, a swimming pool, they have tortoises and crested cranes to keep the children entertained. Across the adjacent road is Lake Tanganyika and if you are lucky, you will glimpse hippos basking. Theu have a variety of food on offer. The pizzas are great and so is the grilled Mukeke fish. For the beer lover, I'd recommend the fresh Primus draught beer. All in all I was satisfied with this restaurant with its helpful stuff.
