Nutmeg bakery and café offers a range of home made cakes, breads, pastries and savoury food. All food is baked fresh daily on the premises. Nutmeg bakery also makes unique and bespoke cakes to order for all occasions.
Was back in Birr for midterm and decided to give this restaurant a second chance. Positives is that we were served quickly and food was good. I ordered a lite bite of a baked potato and beans (were out of chilli). It was definitely lite. Small potato and beans, no garnish or salad. No butter provided or offered. Definitely not worth â¬4.95. Daughter (7) wanted pancakes. I asked if she could just have one. Told that they couldn't reduce from 3 and that we could bring others home. I declined and said I'd pay for them but only wanted one. Pancake was lovely and daughter enjoyed but surely they could serve one at a reduced rate for children. I wonder if I had ordered two sausages would I be charged for full Irish. Ironically little one was offered more than she could eat for the same price as left me starving. Restaurant not at all child friendly and seems to have limited seating.
Whilst staying in Birr for a few days we found this superb reasturant., From the Outside it looks like a takeaway but venture in and you find a hidden gem. The welcome is warm and friendly, the decor quiet and intimate, then comes the food. tasty, innovative and beatifully presented. The menu 'though not extensive invites you to come back to try another enticing dish. Did we enjoy it? You better believe it ,so much so we went back again, a further 2 nights, guess what, the food was consistently superb.

Having visited this restaurant during previous holidays spent in the locallity I found the quality nothing like previous visits, next year we will give it one more opportunity if nothing alters we will stay away, the menu is varied but the meat beef in this case was undercooked and stringy in its texture not good, the desert was okay but okay only really does need to improve. To top it all the roof leaked on the entrance passage way into the dining area.

Stopped off here for coffee and snack. Good varied menu with speedy friendly service. The seating area is spread over 2 areas, overlooking the street and a back area which sells crafts and gifts.

Decide to treat the kids to breakfast. We ventured to Woodfield as I had heard good reviews and hadn't been before. The cafe itself is lovely, nicely decorated. The menu had some nice choices however everything was priced separately. For example we ordered pancakes for the children and were charged for the sugar and chocolate sauce as extras. In total the bill came to â¬60 for 3 pancakes 2 scrambled egg and bacon and drinks. It made for an expensive start to the day.

Quaint, Cosy Family Friendly Restaurant overlooking the River Brosna. Ideal for Family Gatherings, Corporate Lunches, Romantic Dinners Or Light Lunches. Private Room Available Upstairs that can accomodate up to 40 people.
We stopped today for lunch and all I can say if you are in or travelling through Birr this is a must stop. The weather was fabulous so we sat outside by the river, swans swimming, sun shining, peaceful and relaxed. There were hens milling around which was lovely to see. We were a little undecided on what to have the fried Brie or fresh strawberry salad the waiters said why donât you half nâhalf, so happy we did the food was fabulous. I asked the waitress if the sold the apple & plum chutney unfortunately they didnât. It was so good. When paying my bill she produced a little pot of the chutney for me this really made my day. The staff are just so nice & the food is fabulous. Please please take the very short trip to Parkerâs 5 min drive outside Birr so worth it. I know we will back again & again

Spinners on Castle St. is a family run boutique restaurant and guest-house located in the picturesque, Georgian town of Birr, Co. Offaly in the heart of the Irish Midlands. The town of Birr is situated right in the centre of Ireland and is only a short di
We stayed in Spinners in the Ely O'Carroll suite. The room was really spacious and the decor beautiful. The overall ambience and decor of the place is really lovely but what we found disappointing was the attitude of the owners. We had a meal in the restaurant and considering we were staying upstairs and having a meal we found the attitude of owner very rude. He must have passed by us almost 20 times in and out of kitchen and not once did he look at us or smile at us not to mind ask were we enjoying our stay. Service in restaurant was really slow although the waitress was very apologetic about this. We didn't order dessert as we felt we would be waiting to long as there was a 45 min wait between our starters being cleared and our main course being served. Food pleasant, decor pleasant but for an establishment that bills itself as family run the owners showed no cead mile failte to their guests. No juice served at breakfast either buffet either. I had to ssk for a glass of water. The lady owner was in and out at breakfast time but just like the male owner the night before did not look or smile in our direction...

We had Avery nice dinner here after relaxing on the outdoor seating area with a beer.We found this place when we were actually looking for another place. But we had a good time both drinking and eating.Clearly they had experienced staff that was also nice and attentive. We've heard of the over-generous portions but our experience was that they were very normal in size.
