I have been seeking out good restaurants within 30 minutes of the St James area as I will be visiting there regularly. Sadly most of the restaurants I have eaten in, have been well below average. Some have been so poor, that they have even put me off the idea of dining out. Well this place was a pleasant surprise. My meal was very good, and the same for my two friends. However my partners choice of starter, main course and desert was well below par. You would think it was an almost impossible coincidence that all 3 of her choices were pretty bland and tasteless, but our consensus of opinion agreed with every one of her negative comments. I suppose 3 good meals out of 4 is quite a good average. The restaurant is also a bit pretentious. I fear it is not quite where it wants to be, and therefore doesnât quite warrant what it attempts to portray. However, the three of us who really enjoyed our meal agreed that it was much better than the 10+ restaurants we had sampled over the last 3 trips.

We were staying in a B&B in a village nearby and our hostess suggested we try for an evening meal in Combourg. We found this restaurant just outside the village with quite a dramatic view across the lake to the castle of Combourg. The restaurant describes itself as a creperie and a place for grills. That is just what it is but the food is very nice there within these limits and we can recommend it. This is supported by the fact that it is quite popular, the place being fairly crowded. That said we went fairly early and they squeezed us in. The staff are friendly and some speak a little English. As to Combourg, it is a pleasant unspoilt Breton village with one or two hotels, plus the castle and its gardens.

My wife and I have frequented this bijou restaurant for many years now and in February 2019the ownership changed again which made me realise that although a restaurant may have hundreds of reviews all full of praise and it is high in the rankings that of itself is not a true indication of quality/value at any given time as changes of ownership or even just a chef can make all the difference so it is important that guests keep writing reviews so that readers will have an awareness of the situation now not 5 years ago.I am very pleased to say that in the case of Le Grillion new owners have maintained the high standards of food quality, the warmness of welcome and the consistency of value based on our recent visit. We will definitely be there again next month when we return to France.A note of caution: when there has been a public holiday the restaurant seems not to open the following day.I'd still recommend.

The restaurant is only a couple of minutes walk from the town square, It is situated adjacent to the chateau of Combourg with the dining rooms overlooking a scenically pretty lake. My wife and I both chose the 26.5 euro three course menu which started with a complimentary mise en bouche. Our meals were served to perfection by two charming waitresses who allowed us to practise our french whilst they in turn practised their english. Our lunch was a very leisurely experience with plenty of time between courses to discuss all the excellent points of the course just thoroughly enjoyed. A perfectly enjoyable meal and experience, based on which my wife and I have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to others.thank you so much, we were very pleased to recieve you,and of course we appreciate your comments.see you a next timebest regardsclaire

We recommend the menu. Good price/qualify! Oysters are delicious and good main dishes. I however didnât like the dame blanche at all, we have better ice cream in Belgium. A bottle of Sancerre accompanied the food just fine. Thank you for the hospitality

Do get a reservation as this is a small and popular restaurant. Mussels were on the menu with 7 different sauces. I had curry and my husband had Camembert. Both were very good. Wine is reasonably priced. Service was very good also. This is a donât miss place.

Cette maison typique de la région en granit et en colombages date de 1840 mais la grande cheminée qui trône dans la salle de restaurant est de 1612.
Lovely food and super service. Really nice atmosphere and very welcoming on the first day of our holiday. Delighted with it. Delicious crepes and galettes.Good evening, thanks a lot for your advis, we hoppe you have a nice moment in Britain!!!see you soonSonia, Mélissa and Anthony
