Kirche in Bergkirchen.

Clean, modern restaurant with attentive service. Had schnitzel and it was very good. Very comfortable seating. Would recommend for a good meal at a reasonable price.

The food was great, just as expected. Good quality and cooked well. The staff were able to speak to us in English which is a nice bonus. Only problem we had was the service. We were not in a rush but we waited about half hour for drinks and then at the end of our meal the staff disappeared.

This restaurant is close to where we stayed (The Mercure, Bad Oeynhausen) so we walked there on the recommendation of the hotel receptionist. I ate there twice, both times the food was outstanding. The decor is slightly witchy (Hexenhaus means witches house) but not overly so. There is a small bar and room for maybe 8 tables seating 2 - 6 so worth making a reservation during busy times or a for 6 or more people. There is an English menu available. There is an outdoor seating are available but I wouldn't use it in the winter. The portions are generous, we tried:AppetizersFrench Onion soup - excellentGoulash soup - very goodCreamed Herring with fried potatoes - excellentEntreesCardinals meal - very good, very, very rich (pork steak covered with Camembert) Hexewald (?) - Pork steak with a wonderful red sauce and friesand several other courses of of which got high marks from those eating them.We liked this so much we went back several times.

On the main street but outside the pedestrian zone, still has some tables outside. In a friendly, family-like atmosphere you can try some local specialities - I went for fried Pfifferlingen (chanterelles) with onion and potatoes and a rump-steak, all delicious. Try schorle - white or red wine spritzer, excellent in summer.

During our weekâs stay in the region we visited several restaurants for evening dinner.âBulgaria/Bei Nicoâ was one of them. Never been to a Bulgarian restaurant before so we were curious as how the menu would be different than other Balkan restaurants we did visit in the past. What followed was a nice surprise. For a Tuesday evening there were quite a few people inside as we entered around half past seven. A friendly waiter took us to a free table, handed over the menu and served both of us a 2cl glass of ouzo. We both ordered a âSchketoâ (tomato-lamb soup) as starter. On the house a mixed salad with bread and four different kinds of sauces was served. Then my wife had a âMisch-maschâ (sliced meat with sweet pepper, tomatoes and unions together with a pita bread) as main dish. I myself had a âTopf Sofiaâ which turned out to be a kind of stew in a ceramic pot with meat balls, pork, lamb, vegetables, egg, sheepâs cheese, salad and Bulgarian potatoes. We could have chosen the usual grill meats, but we didnât and we donât regret.Very nice food, sweetly spiced, the meat not as greasy as some other Balkan restaurants and all served with a smile and a joke. Good price/quality, 45 euros for the above, including a 0.3l coke, a 0.5l white beer, a cappuccino and a melnik ice cream (with walnuts and prunes).âBei Nicoâ is some 2 kms south of the centre of Bad Oeynhausen, with plenty of free parking space right next to the entrance. If ever around here we would surely visit it again.

On our first evening in Bad Oeynhausen we were fortunate enough to be dismissed from the restaurant we had booked to eat in (see review of Hotel Stickdorn) and so walked across the street to be welcomed warmly into this fabulous Ristorante Paradiso. The restaurant was almost full but the staff were kind and friendly and quickly found us a table. The table was beautifully set with a red rose and a single tall candle and we were provided water and fresh bread and a sample of a bruchetta. The service was prompt and pleasant and the waitress also interpreted the German menu where required. The food was generously proportioned and good value with complementary grappa with the check. It was a treat to have such friendly and kind service and to be so welcomed. We would definitely go back if we should find ourselves in this town again.
