Žitomir; Polish: Żytomierz; Yiddish: זשיטאָמיר, translit. Žitomir) is a city in the north of the western half of Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Zhytomyr Oblast (province), as well as the administrative center of the surrounding Zhytomyr Raion (district). The city of Zhytomyr is not a part of Zhytomyr Raion: the city itself is designated as its own separate raion within the oblast; moreover Zhytomyr consists of two so-called "raions in a city": Bohunskyi Raion and Koroliovskyi Raion (named in honour of Sergey Korolyov). Zhytomyr occupies an area of 65 square kilometres (25 square miles). Its population is 266 936.

Polisyanka is a small restaurant, decorated in traditions of Ukrainian house holding. Prices are reasonable, dishes are good cooked and tasty, menu has a big choice of meals. The one disadvantage I find there is a live music, which is usually really loud. Usually it is in the evenings, so be aware of that if you decide to have dinner in Polisyanka.

Address: Kmytiv village, M06/E40 Kyiv - Chop (western border) motorway, 120 km from Kyiv, Ukraien's capital, next to Zhytomyr, Ukrainehttp://filvarok.com.ua/en http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GcH4wRBqpc Pros: Good interiors, convenient location right next to the renovated European-style Kyiv- Zhitomir motorway, traditional touch, free childrenâs playground and the zoo. Cons: restaurant services could be quicker, although it seems that they cook to order. Conclusion: a good stopover place if you travel from Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, to Central Europe through western Ukraine. Compound: A modern folk-style spacious restaurant, a hotel, spa, children's playground, mini-zoo on the compound all linked by a paved walkway. A nice area, next to the woods. Timber buildings, Ukrainian village-style exteriors/interiors. Open-air gazebos + wooden huts, lots of green grass, a fountain, series of pools, an artificial stream. A small zoo: deer, pigs, fowl, some 20 m from the restaurant, 200m from the hotel; presumably can be a bit smelly depending on the windâs direction. A large â a size of a football field â guarded parking lot.Several woodcraft souvenir shops next to the parking. Big childrenâs playground for free. Restaurant: Menu in English, a bit overpriced, tasty but a bit âfat-richâ Ukrainian food. Looks like the menu is far too large, seemingly misses âsignatureâ courses visitors will âdie forâ and come again and again.

Well, apparently the Schulz Breweries are good at making beer.They probably are, but everything else here was terrible! The waitresses ignored us for about 10-15 minutes. When one of them had potty on us and finally took our order, it took very long to make a shashlik, although there were less than 10 customers in the place and most of them already had their food. When the shashlik finally arrived, it was pretty tasteless. I could have written shashlik on a piece of paper and eaten that, it couldn't have tasted any more bland! The "side dish", grilled vegetables, arrived after I had finished the shashlik and were dripping in fat and oil. Strange how that can happen on a grill! Just before I had finished the vegetables, a "DJ" came in and turned on some music, loud enough to raise the dead. Although there were still not more people in the place than before, apart from him!I guess if you just want to have a pint and watch football on the TVs behind the bar, this is your place!I can imagine it gets pretty full on the weekends. But if you are hungry and want to eat some good food, go elsewhere!

This restaurant was chosen for a typical lunch prior leaving Zhytomyr. It was snowing outside and the room where we stayed (the outer one L-shaped) was cold unfortunately. Also, the kitchen was in a separate building so the waitresses had to bring the dishes from there to the tables passing via the outdoor so the food would get less hot and the door was often opened. Maybe not the ideal logistic solution, at least in winterâ¦Nonetheless, food was very good; we had salads as starters (extremely fresh and tasty), varenyki and shashlik. We drank kompot and Italian wine. Staff attentive and careful.I would love to come back in spring or summer to enjoy the table outdoors.

We stumbled across this place on a road-trip through Ukraine, and had no idea what to expect as we entered the grounds - hungry for lunch. We don't speak Russian, but they had menus in English and ordering went fine. The place seemed to be a mix of a small hotel/restaurant. There were plenty of seats, and looked to be a typical local place for weddings and parties. The grounds were somewhat fairytale like with small cottages for eating, a stage, and small collections of chairs and tables - very charming. We had only salads, so hard to judge the food, but the salads were big, well put together and tasteful.
