The restaurant is very nice, I had lunch and the handmade hamburger on the menu immediately caught my eye. For only 12,50 Euro you get a big plate with large fries and a huge home made hamburger. The way it should be, that's why I gave it the best rating. People travelling with me also were giving compliments about the salads and home made apple pie.

Wir waren nur auf ein Bier im Strandpaviljoen. Hat lecker geschmeckt und der Blick auf den kleinen Hafen ist auch schön.

One of the highlights of visiting Holland is enjoying some freshly cooked kibbeling, and as the pictures demonstrate, they are rather good here. If you are the type who likes to have a few beers then grab a bit of fish ân chips later however, be aware that the guy here keeps very limited hours and tends to shut at about 5 oâclock (yes really!), and doesnât open at all on a Sunday. You have been warned!

My husband and I ate here on tow consecutive nights during a cruise of Friesland. We ate lunch at a couple of other restaurants in town, but felt this was the most creative, interesting food available in Workum. The view of the sluice implied in the name is a bit of a stretch, but it does have very nice outdoor seating with a good view of one of the lift bridges at the west end of town. Family style sides were served with tasty main courses. The wait staff were accomodating and spoke enough English to help us through the menu.

De Guldenleeuw is a hotel and restaurant in the nice little market square in Workum. Obviously people come here to have a meal, but just as many simply sit on the terrace chairs to enjoy a beer. We were of the latter group and spent a pleasant hour here. And it is also worth reporting that if the outside tables are all full, there is a bar, compete with bar stools, inside.Wherever you choose to drink, I can advise that service was friendly and efficient.

We visited Friesland recently and the first stop was Workum to visit the Jopie Houseman Museum followed by coffee and gebakje's at Folkerts Restaurant which was situated in a rather small but pleasant area. Service was very quick and the waitress was very pleasant and was quite descriptive as to the different types of tarts that one could have with their coffee. I couldn't go past the Appel Gebak (my absolute favourite) with Cream but family who accompanied me tried the "Aardbeienvlaai" (Strawberry Tart with fresh strawberries). Delicious hot coffee and gebakje's. Local birds called "Kauwtje" (like a small dark crow with a furry head), waited nearby on empty chairs to see if a wee tidbit would come their way.......we didn't disappoint. A wonderful first visit experience.

We have been in The Netherlands for nearly a year and travelled all over and this restaurant has been one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. The proprietor was so knowledgeable and friendly and his wife is a truly wonderful chef. The food was so delicious we would highly recommend a visit. The restaurant has a lovely outlook and ambience too. We will definitely return.

Although this is a restaurant, it also advertises itself as a pub, which suited us fine as we only wanted beers. The interior blends the eating and drinking parts of the pub seamlessly and we enjoyed very good service and beer while happily ensconced at the bar.If itâs a pub you want - you wonât find better in Workum.
