This is a restaurant by the Dokkumer Neuwe Zeijle, weher you can see the bridge over the Dokkum Canal and all its workings, as well as some really interesting baots moored there. The restaurant was really nice and run by friendly people. Dokkumer Coffee (alcoholic) and Apple Cake well recommended.

During a recent trip to Friesland we had lunch at this rtsaurant. It is located very near the Lauersmeer and a lovely old building. For lunch we decided to have starters from the a la carte menu, rather than just a sandwish. Wise choice: we had a great meal, not too large but very tasty and imaginative. We started with a cold choice of smoked salmon, smoked eel and lovely tiny shrimp from the North Sea. After that we had well prepared scallops and a little fish-croquette, a bit like a crab-cake. A lovely Viognier form the South of France was a good companion to the food. The smoked eel came from a local "smoker" and the tiny shrimp were locally caight and peeled. Great place!

Nothing good to say about this restaurant. Not fresh, taste is bad, seems like there is no cook working here or at least no one who have studied to become a chef.

I'm citing the slogan of a famous Rotterdam fish shop, which very well summarizes the core business of 't Ailand (island). Opening hours are limited, but can be retrieved from the - extremely slowly working - website. True, most fishermen are not whizzkids. But "fishkids" they will be, certainly Friday after 3pm, when the fresh catch is brought in. We came in for a sandwich with warm-smoked salmon, which was OK. The espresso was surprisingly good - not what you typically get in Dutch fishers' ports!

Ordered a tosti (bread with grilled cheese), but received one with ham. Small accident, no problem, but we don't eat pork. Mentioned this to the waitress, but was called a liar. They wouldn't replace the order. Great location, terrible service, would not recommend visiting.

Schade.

Had a quick bite to eat at the restaurant. Was an average experience, prices are ok and not overpriced, same can be said for most of the aspects regarding this restaurant, average is the best way to describe it.Burger I ordered tasted good, staff was friendly, spareribs were dry (according to my friend), view is ok, setting is average.

Restaurant The Riddle of the Sands (Het Raadsel van de Wadden) is situated in the Marina Lauwersmeer near Anjum and Esonstad. The restaurant is open every day of the year. For 7 days a week you can have diner in Restaurant Lauwersmeer, even in autumn and
After a short stop in Groningen we arrived on the holiday park near the Lauwersmeer in the North of The Netherlands. The family would arrive the next day, so we had some time for ourselves. The temperature was great and we walked in the evening sun on the dike along the water of the lake. A storm had been predicted so yachts were coming in at the marina. We entered the restaurant and immediately felt the friendly atmosphere. Because of the weather forecast we took a table inside in the conservatory aside the grapes. The menu offered some nice dishes and also the wine list presented a good selection of, mostly Spanish, wines. As a starter we choose the local scrimps and they were very tasty. For the main course my wife took the Tiger Prawns from the grill and I took fish. All was accompanied by a nice variety of vegetables, French fries and baked potatoes. The bottle of Torres white wine appeared to be good company. Clouds concealed the sky so we missed the sunset but we enjoyed the meal and didnât mind. Afterwards the storm just missed our area and it became an easy walk back to the park.A few days later we came back with 4 persons. Again the food and service were great.

There is nothing really to it. A great view, ideal if you are early for the boat to Schiermonnikoog and hungry. They do know how to make the traditional fish dishes and they serve oysters. Staff is young and perhaps somewhat inexperienced bit very friendly. Kitchen takes its time.
