Stopped by for lunch after taking a short hike with our dog. They welcome dogs on the front porch. We ordered their fish sandwich special and buffalo chicken wrap. The fish was under seasoned & the french fries were a little limp. The wrap was tasty. Service was slow as there was a local power outage and they had a back-up generator so they were one of the few restaurants open in town. It is nice when a restaurant welcomes well behaved dogs. It worked for a quick bite.

Following a snowshoe race at nearby Oak Mountain, we sought a fine lunch before heading back to school. The eating spot where we stopped for lunch a year ago was closed, so the Sunrise Diner was around the corner and obviously open. The sign indicated the diner only serves breakfast on Sunday, and they close at 1:30. It was 1:10, so we were in with 20 minutes to spare. The menu options and the obviously moderate prices were appreciated by the two of us, soon after sitting at the characteristic diner counter. The wait staffâs pleasant banter was engaging and delightful. The duo were comfortable talking with all the patrons, most of whom were finishing their late Sunday breakfast as we arrived.I enjoyed the biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs over easy, and home fries. It was really nice to know the home fries were cooked/fried on order rather than kept warm under a lid, drying out. I appreciate potatoes cooked right.Despite our late arrival, everything was cooked/served as if we mattered. I would recommend the Sunrise Diner to anyone seeking a good diner breakfast while passing through Speculator.

While staying in Speculator, NY at Camp-of-the-Woods and after a beautiful hike at Auger Falls, my family stopped at Old Country Pizza for dinner. We all agreed to give 5 stars to this family friendly restaurant. It seems like a family runs it and all the staff were friendly. I absolutely loved the chicken Parmesan sub. My husband enjoyed a mushroom pizza, son had hot wings and daughter had lasagna. Truly a great meal everyone should check out when they're in speculator! Enjoy!
