This Waffle House Restaurant which is located directly under the Yellow and Black Waffle House sign is so very easy for the Interstate 30 traveler to locate either day or night. Just exit the Interstate at exit 222 which is the Summerhill Road exit and the restaurant is located just to the left. And in case you have forgotten something for your trip, there is a very good convenience store just next door with gas and very clean rest rooms. This makes it very convenient to have a quick bite to eat and buy gas and then be on your way in no time at all!The Waffle House menu is rather extensive for a place of this size. I usually order their All Star Breakfast which has everything that you could possibly want in a breakfast at a good price. I found the staff to be friendly and the service very prompt.Travelers Tip: This easy to locate restaurant has booths and counter service but no drive thru!
Three of us had breakfast on July 2 on our return from Nashville to home. One of us had a cheese omelet with hash browns and Texas toast. Another had a loaded omelet, hash browns and toast. Both said their omelets were great and recommended. I had a waffle and two fried eggs. Eggs were cooked as ordered and the waffle was excellent. Service was very professional and friendly. Several refills of coffee. This Waffle House is very good, near the interstate and recommended
What an awesome spot for a restaurant: Inside the repurposed lounge car of a 1940s Santa Fe Railroad passenger train! While this actual train car isn't the historic Flying Crow's dining car, it still packs so much retro charm. Anyone who loves trains or local history would love to dine here. As for the actual food itself, they serve an awesome pimento cheese and homemade pies by the slice from a local bakery, along with lots of other sandwiches. It's kind of a deli. There's great seating indoors in the train car as well as outside of a deck. Really an awesome spot that we can't stop talking about.

Went here for breakfast and it was OK. Very friendly staff and very good service but food prep was just OK. First restaurant I've been in, in years and couldn't get real butter. Parkay or something on the table and not my choice. Grits were lumpy and not very good without butter. Just personal preference. Prices were good and it sits in a small strip mall. Menu is limited.

Found this place on TripAdvisor. We hate going to chain restaurants when we travel through different states. So glad we stopped. We had the scattered hash browns.Awesome.would recommend. The biscuits were very flaky.I would highly recommend stopping in for a good breakfast. The staff was very friendly.
Excellent home cooking at good prices. They have a different "special" each weekday. The only downside is that the dining room is small and sometimes gets full. Parking also difficult right at lunch time. Other than that, one of the best places to have lunch in Texarkana.

Yup, it's true! Texarkana locals love this place and have for years. Located in the Oak Lawn Shopping Center just off of New Boston Road (US 82), this is a good place to take a break for breakfast, lunch or a good Southern Maid Pastry. Southern Maid Pastry has been proudly serving their tasty pastries in the South since 1937 and I can easily understand why. I stopped by recently for a Sausage Jalapeno Kolache which was a great combination of a Tex-Mex Sausage and the Kolache, an Eastern European Sweet Roll, which is pronounced Kawl-atsh). I also purchased a wonderful Raisin Fruit Pie for later. And yes, Shorty's does have a drive thru window around the back of the building if you are in a hurry. And I always, always have received great customer service while dining there! And just remember that this place opens early (I think 5 or 6 am) for breakfast but closes at 2 pm after lunch!Travelers Tip: Yes, this place is a little off of the beaten path for the Interstate 30 and US 59 traveler, but it is a good place to sample some local cuisine or just have a coffee and a great Southern Maid pastry before continuing your travels. And a plus for travelers is that Shorty's Diner has a Big Lots, a Flea Market, a Dollar Store, a Grocery Store and a very affordable and clean Laundrymat (we Southerners say Washateria) nearby!

We are a family style restaurant that believes in making meals from scratch. We hand cut all our Chicken Fried Steaks and even make our own mayonnaise that we use in our salad dressings. Our desserts are made daily along with our rolls and cornbread.
A great local restaurant with a variety of menu options to satisfy any taste. Perfect for family dinners or large groups, they have an open seating area with plenty of room to spare. The chocolate pie is amazing as is the strawberry pie, but it is doubtful that you will have any room left for dessert due to their generous portions.
