We visited and had breakfast over Memorial Day weekend. The place was packed since there are 7 -8 booths and counter bar stool seating. We ordered a breakfast sandwich, country eggs Benedict (biscuit, poached egg, sausage and white sausage gravy) and a mini breakfast. BlandThe food was ok and not expensive. The Country Benedict was so so, the egg was not poached but fried, sausage tasted like hotel/free sausage (not good). There is nothing special in here that should cause you to make a special trip, nor did we fine it to be a Hidden Gem. Good Luck

We have eaten here on several occasions over the past few years. Most of the time the food has been very good. On one occasion during Lent we had the fried fish special. It was awful. It came out very mushy as if it had been cooked too long. Tonight we stopped again for dinner. As we walked past the front of the building we could see through the window that there were 5 open tables in the middle section of the restaurant. One inside the hostess told us that we would have to wait until there was an open booth. We weren't offered a table in the middle section. We walked out!! It was very apparent that the middle section wasn't being used by a large party or group. She just didn't want to wear is there. Will not be going back any time soon!!!Hi Szwolinski, So sorry to hear you didnât have a great experience at our restaurant! We felt awful when you left last night. The kitchen had just received so many orders/tickets at once the tickets were hanging down to the floor. Also, we donât typically seat a small party at a large table, but sure wouldâve if we knew you didnât want to wait for a smaller table. Iâm usually up front to greet you, but had to go help the cooks when they got so busy. As far as our beer battered fish fry, during lent & year round we often have a line at the door itâs so popular. Wish you wouldâve alerted us to your fish so we couldâve remade it for you! :(.. When we get too many orders at once, the cook might overload the fryer & the oil temp drops causing some to be less crisp. I order mine extra crispy. Hope youâll give us another try. Ask for me, Joe. Iâd love to serve you our delicious food!!

We go to the Fresh Start a few times a year. It is local, friendly, and offers classic diner fare - eggs, pancakes, BLT, etc... It's always pretty good, and they are known for their pancakes. If you can eat a gigantic one, they put your picture on the wall. It's that kind of place. It is usually pretty crowded on weekend mornings, and it will be loud. There is very little noise-dampening in the room, and the kitchen likes to ring an incredibly loud cowbell when someone sends them a tip. Along with that, they all yell when they ring the bell, so it can be alarming if you are lost in a bit of a daydream. I think that one time I sent them $5.00 when I got there asking them to not yell or ring the bell for a half hour. All in all, this is a good bet for breakfast or lunch any time. Decent food, decent prices.

Prompted by a favorable report on New Day Cleveland, we gave the Village Diner a try. We had been there under prior ownership. The food was excellent to average. The location was dark for a time. Recently we saw on New Day Cleveland that the diner was up and running again and touting the breakfast. So we decided to give it a try.The omelet we ordered was tasteless and the service slow. Perhaps most disappointing, the coffee had no flavor and became drinkable only with heavy doses of cream and sweetener. As a comic end to our visit, we were presented with the check. It was two checks, really, stapled together. The top check was for a breakfast we had not ordered and in an amount less than ours. Our check was underneath it. I told our waitress "you gave me two checks, and I like the check on top the best. But the check on the bottom is mine!" Her response - "Oh, that's where that other check went. I thought I lost it."We won't be back. We left the restaurant at about 10:15 a.m. The diner has a large television. New Day Cleveland wasn't on it. And we won't be taking anymore dining recommendations from NDC.
