We had only breakfast dishes and they were very good and simple; not simple like lacking flavor, but simple in the fact that they were your regular burritos, french toast and eggs; so you will not find anything special here, the burger looked really good though. The attention was good, and the price was very cheap.Only complaint is the wait time, the place is very busy so we waited ~45 minutes to be seated. We were in no rush so we decided to wait, was it worth it? Maybe not.

We had a late lunch there and were able to be seated in the original railcar as opposed to the adjacent room. The pulled pork tacos, Chinese chicken salad, Buffalo wings and berry cobbler with ice cream dessert were all very tasty, the service was OK, and the wait for a table was about 15 minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed reading about the history of the restaurant and it's colorful founder. The restaurant is located at the head of a scenic highway over the Emigration Canyon, which we followed on the way back to Salt Lake City over the summit and down past the Little Dell Reservoir to I-80.

We were impressed that Food Network has been here, so we were excited to try it. The service was excellent and the food was so-so. We had fish tacos, a burger, and and a burrito. They also have vegan milkshakes, which are hard to find. Everything was good, but not great. The best part was the eclectic diner decor....license plates, art work, cool signs, etc. A fun place for a family to eat!

We were surprised to find several vegan options in Salt Lake City, even more surprising that my non-vegan partner agreed the food was great. There's a donut shop nearby with vegan options as well.

Return to the fifties with a visit to Hires Big H. The more mature staff may not be what you remember but they give fast, excellent service. Big burgers, classic fries, frosted mugs of Hires Root Beer along with other classic drive in staples make this a very popular stop. You can see everything from kids birthday parties to family outings and power broker politicians in the dining room.
