Quirky place that doesnât look like much from the outside but the food is excellent and the main waiterâs banter is fun. Highly recommend it. Great breakfast food for lunch. Be warned that the serving portions are large. Itâs in the oldest continually operating lunch car diner in the US. Very quaint but friendly with great food.

During a holiday weekend, expect a longer than usual wait for seating and for your food. We realized that and are patient customers because the food is good and the outdoor patio is great! That being said, when the cook gets an order for scrambled eggs but tries to turn the fried eggs he made into scrambled eggs it is the most disgusting plate of eggs you want to see and eat! Our waitress did not bring this out, extra servers seemed to help out. Hubby did not mentioned it because they were so busy, and with the hot humid weather we did not want to wait even further for another dish or cause our overly busy waitress problems in those conditions. No excuse for the cook however....he should have known better, correct your mistake, don't send out crap! This, of course, is not intended to discourage going there, and it wouldn't to most of their customers. It's just sad that a situation like this happens, hopefully not again.

Choo Choo Charlies sits in the old station at the Kenosha train stop, now the last stop on the line north from Chicago using the Metra Rail system. It's no surprise, then, that there is a heavy train theme in the restaurant.Setting first: train pictures everywhere, many from years gone by. At least three flat-screen TVs running loops of train footage -- passenger, freight, scenic/tourist. There is a counter where you could sit and eat your meal, or many tables and booths. When an order is up, the cashier or waiter/waitress will pull the cord and a train whistle blows. Orders come out of the kitchen in baskets on rail cars for a train just above reachable height for kids at the booths. Your waiter/waitress then retrieves the baskets at the end of the line and brings them to your table. What fun!Food second: It's a diner, so you'll get burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes, things like that. It's not a Michelin-starred restaurant, by any means, but it doesn't pretend to be, either. As others have noted, it's a short walk from Kenosha's Dinosaur Museum, and a short trolley ride from both the Public Museum and the Civil War Museum. If you're out with your kids, have fun with this place. They sure will! And if you're just two adults (or three, or four) out for lunch, why not? Just enjoy it. And some of the food is quite tasty, if you remember that you're in a nostalgic diner, not a high-end restaurant.Service last: Kenoshans are very happy to see Choo Choo Charlie's succeeding. A number of other restaurants have tried to operate out of this spot, and failed. So, good for Choo Choo's! But my sense is that part of the success is keeping costs low by staffing mostly with teenagers. Service, therefore, can be slow. Every server I've dealt with there has been cheerful and pleasant, but even telling my server once that I was in a hurry didn't seem to speed the delivery of my food. So, don't go in there if you are in a rush. So, if you're not in a hurry, and want a trip down memory lane -- for you or your kids, no matter how old they may be! -- Choo Choo Charlie's is a nice place, very convenient to much of downtown Kenosha and, of course, the Metra commuter rail line.
