Park Wood Diner

We met our friends for brunch on Labor Day: was not too crowded. Voted by NJ.com as best diner in Essex County, we decided to meet our friends for a meal. Our friends had the eggs Benedict and really liked them. My wife had an omelette and thought it was good but not great. I had a wrap with fries. The balsamic vinegar on the wrap made the wrap too soggy. The fries were good. Server was super friendly. They have a parking lot.

My first time visiting Summit. Arrived in the early morning and found this great place. I sat at the counter and was rapidly greeted by a very nice non-English speaking waitress. After a little difficulty with a question I had ... she just pointed to the menu board. Super pleasant though. I ordered a sausage omelet and was really surprised and pleased by the portions. The omelet came with toast and potatoes. Huge chunks of sausage! I enjoyed every bite. I walked to the restaurant but noticed that there may only be paid parking nearby. It’s on a busy street and street parking was full each time I was outside. Be sure to plan an extra few minutes to find parking...and budget that into what you expect to spend for breakfast. The atmosphere was great...and any diner that attracts the local police as customers has my vote! The only con I found was that the coffee top-offs were nearly non-existent. I only got one top-off during my entire visit...and restaurant capacity was at about 50% on average.

Huck Finn Diner

While the service was not as good as we expected, I did find out later than only three of the seven scheduled servers showed up when we visited, which is why I improved the service rating to average.Huck Finn is a large dinner with a very large menu, and it has a liquor license, so I was able to start off with an inexpensive, but drinkable chardonnay. I then proceeded to the salad bar where I had a lot of veggie choices, along with some cheeses and legumes. The meal continued with matzoh ball soup. While not as good as my mom's (of course, I had to say that!), the matzoh ball was still pretty good, and I appreciated the fact that the soup was not too salty. For my main course, I had the chicken parm, served with a good sized side of penne pasta with tomato sauce. The chicken parm itself consisted of two large breaded chicken breasts, served with mozzeralla cheese and more sauce. I was pretty happy, but the chicken was a tiny bit dry. I only finished about half, and had the rest for dinner the next night. Finally, I had a large slice of seven layer cake that I shared at home, with my wife. The cake was good, and I liked the icing.I think we got our money's worth.
