When I visit Lake Wales, I usually eat at least one meal at the Lake Wales Family Restaurant. This time I was traveling alone at lunchtime. I sat at the counter, and had a great sandwich with fries and sweet tea. Food and service were excellent. I shall return!

The Egg Hose is our favorite breakfast restaurant. This is a locals hangout because of the food, service and price. The family friendly atmosphere and friendly staff is one of the reasons we keep coming back. They have a great lunch menu as well as daily specials. Restaurant is clean and service is always top notch.

The wife and I prefer trying small restaurants/diners instead of fast food when we're traveling. The soup/salad's and service are generally always better than a chain.John B posted some good photos below from 2016.As others noted, the place does look a little tired, but most "diners' do.Breakfast is served all day.The menu was fairly extensive. The portions were very good.Service was good. Not very busy. You could tell most of those there, typical of small diners were "regulars".It's "hiding" in a small mall, not technically a strip mall since you have to go inside to the mall to get to it. I'd say there was nothing special about it, If you're looking for a diner atmosphere, I'd recommend it. If you're looking for a classier "dinner" type restaurant then I'd avoid it, you'll likely be disappointed.Good prices. We would return for a lunch or breakfast.

For more than 65 years Denny's has been bringing people together over great food. It's the place where people can relax and be themselves; where they can enjoy classic American comfort food and everyday value. 24 hours a day. 365 days a year. Here, you ca
There are over 1500 Denny's restaurants in the US and many are franchise operations. This is the case in Lake Wales. Last year new owners took over this location and it has been a steady decline ever since. Employee absence and the owners obsession with the 'labor matrix' have ruined what could be a good location. Their 'customer count' appears to be dropping rapidly. It is normal to enter this restaurant and find 1 manager, 1 cook and 1 or 2 waitress. And it seems like they all take turns with busing tables, register and dishes. Go a few blocks and the Bob Evans will have 3 times that many people even at slow times (which are rare). The local I-hop staffs the same way as Bob Evans and their customer count has been rising so much that a new location is opening next to Denny's in 2 months. It is really sad when the Denny's employees say - 'we will have to close as soon as I-Hop opens".
