Café Laguna began as a labor of love. Started by Lita Urbina, who comes from a family of culinary enthusiasts, the first restaurant in 1991 was her way of sharing her authentic Filipino dishes with everyone. With the help and encouragement of her family,
The restaurant has been in the city for more than 10 years, and that speaks a lot. Plenty of food establishments come and go in this city. I have been to this place several times, often to have dinner with friends and families. I like it for the ambiance, the service and most specially for the food. The restaurant serves a variety of Filipino dishes; the menu is arranged as such: appetizers, chicken, vegetable, pork, beef and seafood, desserts, drinks. I have tried, and frequently ordered, the kinilaw, crispy kangkong, chicharon bulaklak, kare-kare, crispy tadyang, sinigang na bangus, green mango salad, banana turon. There are plenty more Filipino dishes offered, some of which you would not think will be served in restaurants (chicken and pork adobo, corned beef soup, crispy crablets, puto bongbong served fresh, banana turon served fresh, bibingka served fresh) -- which is why a lot of customers bring their old folks and foreign visitors there. For a lovely afternoon treat, try the high tea set (small bite size servings of puto, chicken adobo in a bread, espasol, bibingka, and a pot of pandan tea -- great for a group of 3 or 4 adults). The staff are very friendly. Having been to the restaurant more than 5 times, I can say that they have good work ethic. One time, they approached me to ask if I left a certain amount of money on my last visit, as they noted the date when they found the money on one of the chairs. For the ambiance, I like it as it is not cramped; being inside a hotel, one will not find passers by staring at you while you eat. The noise is not as loud as when you are in a mall restaurant. Location is convenient. The Mallberry Suites is just a few meters away from Robinson's Mall (it is about 20 steps away from the mall's covered parking area!) in LimKetKai Center. It has its own parking space as well.

Typical Local food can be sampled here. They have a few non Filipino items on the menu. Their preparations are mostly local and well prepared. Service if friendly and efficient. Restaurant is not as luxury as may be expected but it is comfortable. A good place to go while in CDO.
