Just two hours north of London by rail, the city of York holds 1900 years' worth of history in its ancient walls. The Romans built the city in 71 AD, and the Vikings captured it in 866 AD. Stop by the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens for a look at what the Roman and Vikings left behind (they must have packed light when they left). From there, move on to the York Castle Museum for a not-so-quick overview of the most recent 400 years.

Luxury Deli style sandwiches, superfood salads and beautiful plant based desserts
Popped in as I saw an ice cream counter marked âveganâ so I couldnât resist!! I had three scoops of Northern Bloc ice cream and was yummy!! I had the choc orange, peanut butter and hazelnut. Although I didnât get food, the deli was full, which is always a good sign and all the food being served looked lovely. Healthy and delicious looking Sandwiches, salads and cakes galore!

Relaxed, informal & independent modern British neighbourhood restaurant & wine bar located within the heart of the city. Open daily 9am - 11pm. Food served 9am-10pm.
Visited recently with family and enjoyed the two course special offer. Chicken and steak dishes were both excellent as was the prawn and chorizo starter. Lots of choices of wine by the glass as well as some good value wine flights, we tried the French and Spanish flights which were both interesting and good choices. Interior was modern and had a nice atmosphere. Staff were all friendly and efficient. Iâd return again if in the area.

Yorks only speacialist cheese shop and cafe. Our peaceful courtyard leads up to the city walls, with a glimpse of the minster. Our simple menu specialises in Cheeseboards, Platters and Grilled Cheese. Try our Artisan coffee from Dark Woods Roastery, or on
Out with friends and kids and in York to meet our student son. Found this cafe and arranged to meet here, back garden, rear sitting room and front room tables and seats meant there was plenty of space for the 8 of us. Red wine, cheese board, pork pie and sandwiches were all lovely and good value and we had a chat with the friendly host Harry who made us very welcome. Will visit again and would recommend.
