For years we've stopped at The Cooking Company in Haddam for their luscious desserts. The store in Middletown is fairly new, and we were pleased to see they offer made-to-order salads. Their base salad, with your choice of greens and four more ingredients, is only $7 and is such a great value. Everything is fresh and delicious. Of course they also offer a dozen entrees, ranging from stuffed fresh tomatoes to marinated beef. I think most people take the food to serve at home, but they have several tables for those who want to eat in.

Steak & seafood restaurant with buffet room for parties. Bar is open until midnight every night except Sunday until 10pm
We joined another couple for dinner on a Friday night. The place was a somewhat crowded so service was a bit slower than we would have liked, but still OK. Of the four meals, the veal pesto was outstanding. The meat was tender and moist, just like it should be. The pork loin was very good. Chicken was nothing super special. Good, but not enough to order again. So overall, very good. Definitely worth a return visit. A bit out of the was so make sure you look for it.

I was in today with my wife and daughter today; we all got the veggie subs, and I treated myself to a tiramisu as well. Sandwiches were excellent, great value and well worth it. I ordered the large sandwiches without thinking, and they were.... large! Bread was very tasty and loved it was packed with fresh veggies. Folks behind the counter were nice and friendly too. The employee's taking our orders were great. The owner who was making the food, thought schmoozing with people way more important than the 8 or so waiting online, makes for better business success than taking making sandwiches. Its a shame because the food is excellent. Vowed to never go back again.
