Find out what Deli restaurants to try in Everett. Birthplace of Boeing airplanes, Everett is a lively coastal city just north of Seattle. Its waterfront, once a highly industrialized area home to a naval base and large paper mill, has recently undergone a transformative redevelopment as a locale for seaside shopping, dining and festivities. The city's numerous parks, boasting free live concerts every summer, are excellent for hiking or relaxing, while the coast is a popular spot for sailing, water sports and whale watching excursions.

Kate's Greek & American Deli

The owner; Katie, tells my husband "You've lost so much weight!" as she paws all over him. (We've never been in there before.) Only 1 other occupied table & she sat w/the man while eye balling us. Our food finally gets there & we're busy eating. She yells out: "Sure is quiet over there!" Well yeah, we're eating! My husband finished & I stopped at 1/2. She brings a box over exclaiming that she had been watching. Uh..ok. I put my entertainment coupon on to the table & she picks it up asking if that is WHY we stopped in there today??? I ate w/my hat on as did everyone else. It was a cold/rainy day. So when I stood up she exclaims "OH good! You HAVE hair! I thought you didn't have any until I saw your braid in the back. We get so many sick people from the nearby hospital." I guess I'm just not used to all of the well-intentioned assertiveness. The food was good albeit a little pricey. They sell their own hot sauce there as well.

And maybe other places, too, but this is the pastrami I grew up on in El Lay: a french dip roll spread with mustard, packed with pastrami and a few slices of dill pickle. Took me right back home, it did. There is, I should mention, a longer menu--Barney doesn't make only pastrami. But did I have eyes for anything other than my beloved pastrami? No! Should mention that our excellent sandwiches were personally prepared by Barney himself. Loved the wall decor: pictures of Hollywood stars, most from the 'Golden Age' (like Barney himself), though with slight alterations on the names. There was Greta Barney, Humphrey Barney, Cary Barney...there was even Andy Griffith's neurotic sidekick: Barney Barney. :) We asked if all these stars had been in the shop. "No," Barney said,"They're just my family." It's that kind of place.

Red Rock Subs

Reviewed By ovolacto

A nice change of pace. In a smaller town with two other, national chain sub shops nearby, it pays to be different. Red Rocks is very near both Quiznos, and Subway, but they offer a different, arguably better product. Their subs are neither like Quiznos, nor Subway. They do offer a good variety, and a variety of breads that are fresh, and tasty. You can have your choice of French bread, Whole Wheat, or Sourdough. We had "The Vegetarian" on Whole Wheat. The sandwich is toasted. They slice the bread, and run it through one of those commercial toasters that runs on a chain. They spread the bread with garlic mayo, and lay on the cheeses before toasting. Then, after it comes out of the machine, they lay on avocado, dijon mustard, cucumbers, tomatoes lettuce, sprouts, olive and green peppers. The day they did ours, however, they must have had a new guy working. I do not remember there being any mustard on the sandwich, any green peppers, or any sprouts. Maybe they were there, and were just so minuscule that I did not notice. To be frank, I'm not even sure the olives were in there. The sandwich was good, but I didn't really feel like we got what we paid for. We got the foot long, which seemed to be every bit of a foot long, and that was $13.00. The same sandwich prepared differently at Subway would be $6.00. I did like that they included avocado on the sandwich. That alone was worth it. The avocado was perfectly ripe, and brought the entire sandwich together. Anyway, this is a very small shop that seems to be enjoyed by locals, so they must be doing plenty right, especially considering the competition nearby. For something different, and local, I highly recommend it, but keep an eye on the guy making your sandwich so that you know he's putting everything in there he's supposed to be putting in there, and either call ahead, or expect to wait a bit. All of the sandwiches are handmade by order, and that naturally takes a little time.

Looking for a good quality bakery for a mid-afternoon snack, I thought of Petit Sweet. Ordered sausage quiche and cold slaw. Excellent. This has a homey feel to it, with tables, people baking in the back, and plenty of sweets, pastries, croissants and tarts in the display cases. This looks like they could cater a quality party. Will return.
