Restaurante Selva Tropical

We stopped here as a group for breakfast while on a tour heading to Tortuguero. Everyone was very nice and they had a buffet set up for us The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. There were enough food options to choose from. The butterfly garden behind the restaurant was a pleasant surprise. We saw a few Blue Morpho butterflies along with some others. Also saw a couple of walking stick insects plus a few red Poison Dart Frogs.

La Trocha is built like a pirate ship. It’s no surprise seafood is a specialty. Aaron loved his mariscada en salsa jalapena, 5950 colones. I enjoyed the casado vegetarian--especially the potato salad, 3400. Our total bill including a Diet Coke and Tropical Te Verde was 11,350 colones, or about $21.21.

Restaurante El Fogon de Lola

I always stop at Lola's on my way back from the Caribbean. It's easy off/on parking if you're heading back toward San José. I also like comida típica, traditional Costa Rican food.On my last visit I tried the Sopa Azteca--a tomato soup with cheese, avocado, and tortilla pieces. this was touted as Lola's special recipe and it was very very good. I will have sopa azteca at Lola's again.
