Named Restaurant of the year by Essex Life magazine in October 2017. Head Chef & Owner Terence Howard was also named Essex Top Chef 2016 by Essex Life magazine. The Creek Restaurant, Bar & Lounge is a family run restaurant set in a 17th century Grade ll l
We spent a pleasant evening celebrating my daughters birthday I felt the food was over priced for what it was and the restaurant was virtually empty apart from us in a Friday night which meant there was zero atmosphere and we had to keep shushing ourselves so the hovering staff would not over hear our stories! As the restaurant is in a rural location my daughter elected to drive there and get a cab back leaving her car to be collected the next day. We confirmed with the staff that this was acceptable. However on returning home I received an irate phone call from the owner demanding the car was moved as it was âstupidlyâ parked. Bearing in mind it was the only car in the car park as the restaurant was so empty when surely this could have been addressed before we went?? We took photos this morning the car was sticking out 5 inches from the owners car if as he claimed his delivery lorry needed to get through his own car would be in the way as well we will not be returning clearly he was frustrated about the lack of customers and decided to take it out on us who spent £200 the bulk of his takings for the evening !Dear reader.....It is always our intention to ensure everybody has good service in every aspect when dining with us. This service also extends to the safety & well being of every individual, be it a customer or employee. Unfortunately, this is not always taken well by some people. Needless to say this depends on the individuals own personal agenda, likes, dislikes etc.If you take a look back you will see this similar trend on a 1* review we received where the customers were perfectly happy on previous visits, friendly with us, loved the food & service but the one time we could not unfortunately accommodate their needs now everything is terrible, horrible people, no customer service, food isn't good etc. This review is of a similar nature. we were told how lovely everything was, food was amazing, please tell the chef . We then politely asked, (via telephone as we had only noticed once everybody had left), for the car to be moved as it was parked in the middle of the car park (picture on Facebook review) as we wanted the car to be parked safely. On a morning, long before anyone arrives for lunch, we have numerous vehicles delivering food, collecting bins etc we have even found the car park full of highway maintenance workers due to them fixing the road, attending to the phone lines or similar. So before you arrive for your reservation lots of things are going on behind the scenes, or in this case, out front. We have had many people leave their car over night, we are more than happy to accommodate, but we may ask for people to move vehicles to a certain spot to help ensure they're safe & covered in good view of our cctv coverage, surely that is fair? We have done our checks and no one asked if the vehicle could be left overnight as claimed, hence the phone call, but it was taken badly and was seen as a huge inconvenience so we were called aggressive. All of sudden, The Creek is the worst place on earth. Why do some people feel the need to exaggerate things when they are not happy? Our bill was £200, all their takings! Really? We were the only people there! Really??It was only parked five inches less away than the owners car! Really??? Granted it was not the busiest evening we have ever had, that is true, but they certainly were not the only diners. News flash, it happens! busy nights when unexpected, quiet ones when expecting to be busy, but hey, get the firing squad, line us up & pull the trigger! In the comments section of the Facebook post kindly left to us, it was revealed of the hardship of moving the car at 6:34am in the morning after such a hard week at work, how is this our fault? we didn't park the car. We all work hard here too, we have had a hard week & we now have had to deal with this. Judging by the reaction to us caring about their property, it would of been very interesting if we didn't bother & when they came to collect the car and it had been damaged, imagine it....oh my goodness. All we are trying to do is provide a nice place to dine & drink in, sometimes a customers preference cannot be what they would like or to happen but we try our best to accommodate as best we can. Most people understand this and some others do not, but it's the way we are attacked on social media platforms with truth stretching and adding other things to the review which did not happen actually astounds us all! Imagine if we could do the same! Well, they say they will not return due to these events, we must be honest & say that on this occasion we are glad no one here will ever have to deal with this scenario again. One of things you learn as you grow older is that there are always two sides to every story!

Clearly a very popular place, and rightly so. We arrived to a friendly welcome (despite the restaurant being very busy), were quickly and efficiently shown to our room, then returned to the restaurant for a meal. I recommend their "signature" scotch egg starter and thoroughly enjoyed my linguine main. Peroni on draught was an added bonus. Our room was spacious, immaculately clean, the bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed the view over the expansive Green. All in all, highly recommeded

Cloisters is found in the early C20th part of the building. With a definite Art Deco feel, you will find the seating so comfortable, the atmosphere so relaxing, that you will not want lunch or dinner to end! Here, modern European dishes are given a superi
I was taken out for dinner her with a rather fussy 18 year old recently so, having looked at the menu beforehand was rather concerned - she ate everything! The dining room was full, rather formal looking as is fitting in an old building and expensive hotel, but people were wearing a range of clothes from casual to very formal - so it wasn't stuffy. The staff were attentive but not overly so. I can see why some people think the menu is old fashioned, one of my companions had lobster bisque which I haven't seen on a menu for years, but we were curious and he said it was delicious - the lobster came on the plate with the sauce poured over it at the table; a bit of drama. My starter, braised fennel and main, sea bass were well prepared and served - the fish was fresh and a generous portion. My daughter enjoyed the sweet potato soup and her gnocchi - the first time she has willingly eaten Stilton. We added a small pot of chips to share. Some of the dishes may seem old fashioned to those that have to keep up with trends and think anything else isn't worth trying, but all I am interested in is the quality of the food. It was good, much of it local and obviously home made. One slight criticism. We ordered the coffee and desserts at the same time and were surprised when the former arrived first - and were drunk before the desserts arrived. That isn't the norm as far as I am aware and I was surprised that a restaurant of this quality made such a basic error - I have no problem with them arriving at the same time.

Independent Cafe Bistro in the heart of Colchester. Serving Speciality coffee and Breakfasts through to Lunch and Evening Supper Clubs. Fully Licenced, 100 seat restaurant including 35m2 outside Courtyard. Vegan and Gluten Free options available.
Was recommended to try this establishment by member of staff at the Castle Museum. He was not wrong. A friendly welcome and comprehensive menu greeted us. Falafel, hummus and salad for me, quiche, salad and chunky chips for her. This was followed by a huge slice of courgette and avocado cake. Delicious!!! We sneaked some caramel shortbread home for later. Pricing very good. It was only on the way home we realised we had a vegetarian lunch. Just goes to show you don't need to eat meat or fish for a great meal.
