Claytons & The Glasshouse offer some of the finest food and drink experiences available in North Devon. We stock a wide range of spirits, beers, wines and ciders to suit every taste, whilst our Head Chef rustles up some truly special dishes in the kitchen
We were in Barnstaple for a couple of days and wanted somewhere nice to eat, and preferably an independent establishment. We came across Clayton and the Glasshouse of a side street. We were quite late for lunch but impressed with the choices which included several fish options and a âchefs choiceâ. The food was really tasty and served with a nice selection of well cooked veg. The wine we ordered was lovely. Service was great, nice friendly staff who offered to show us the amazing roof terrace, lots of glass, a covered and open area, we will go back just to eat upstairs! All in all we really enjoyed this place and so happy to find somewhere that wasnât your same old chain food!Thank you for your review! Nestling in a gloriously green woodland valley, two miles from Barnstaple, Broomhill is a stunning late Victorian hotel with a twist ... there is fantastic art everywhere. With an award-winning restaurant, contemporary art gallery and sculpture gardens di
Valentines set evening meal very reasonably priced three course meal. Quirky clean and nice surroundings let down only by toilets which were old fashioned and with roller towels ! thought they went out with the ark for very good hygienic reasons? Also towel in mens' had come to the end. The amuse bouche was very tasty, the starters ( a mixed tray) looked very attractive and were pleasant but a little bland. The main courses ( beef and lamb) were tasty but the pannacotta was very bland and topped with messy uninteresting meringue. The cheese board was superb. The staff were friendly. Overall the atmosphere in the side room was like a library. Not our cup of tea sadly but maybe of interest to those who particularly like vegan.

Had trouble finding anywhere open and selling food on a Bank Holiday Monday. I am very glad we found this place. Very friendly and relaxed. The food was amazing. I had two specials; a grilled mackerel starter with lime salsa and tomatoes then pan fried bream with a fish stew. Both absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. The skin on the bream was nicely crispy with the fish (3 fillets) delicate and moist. The fish stew was a delight with creamy melt in the mouth mussels. My wife had the spicy duckbreast with noodles, pickled cabbage and peppers. Again perfectly cooked with the duck breast tender and just pink. I was being good and skipped dessert but regretted my decision as my wife had a creme brulee, which came with homemade shortbread and a few raspberries; perfection. The price of the main courses could easily be increased by £5 (bream was £15 and duck by £12.50) and it would be a bargain. As it is, I do not think I have had such a quality meal at this price. A true gem that I cannot recommend enough.

Had Sunday lunch at The New Inn and was very impressed with the quality of food, the standard of service and friendly welcome. A very comprehensive menu with some veggie options, we had the roast beef which was delicious. In my view one of the best pubs for Sunday lunch in the district. The pub is welcoming of dogs which is important to us when we eat out.
