The restaurant Les Merles serve the contemporary version of the traditional Perigord cuisine and updated the regional dishes with modern cooking techniques. The chef de cuisine Bas Holten selects the best local, seasonal and fresh ingredients for his menu
During our trip in Dordogne, we enjoyed the French cuisine in 4 different places, Saint Emilion, Eymet, Perigueux and here. Unfortunately, this restaurant was the only one who did not meet our expectations. The service was poor (actualy they ignored us the whole evening), the food had no taste, even the plates were nice looking, the bill was everage. All of us, 6 persons on table, choosing 3 different menus of 3 and 3 different menus of 5 plates, agreed that we will not come again!Dear SorinSn,We thank you for taking the time to tell us how you feel about your dining experience. On behalf of the entire team of Chateau les Merles, I sincerely apologize that our restaurant did not meet your expectations. I am surprised by your comment about the service which doesn't reflect our usual standards. Indeed, It is a point of honour to make you spend a special moment with us and we are sorry that did not occur. Our restaurant serves innovative dishes with local products and we regret that you did not like them. Our menu changes every season and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again to make you rediscover our establishment.Sincerely, Sibylle PoireaultGuest Relations

Found this little restaurant tucked away behind some bigger venues while visiting Bergerac with a group of friends. The owner took time to sit with us and talk us through the concept and the menu, although a vegetarian option wasn't listed there was one available. The food was faultless I had the seabass risotto which was perfectly cooked and bone free, others in the group had burger, duck, lamb and vegetarian options containing tofu. All were delicious. The concept of adding your choice of dish to a plate with side salad, melon and a shot glass of hot vegetable soup was fun and one dish was plenty for us making a good value meal at 10 euro a head. Everything about this place was a treat the owner even freed up some space in a little room at the side of the kitchen for us as the main restaurant was full and the weather was poor.

Used this restaurant when staying at the adjacent hotel Ludik for reveurs. Not a fine dining establishment but provides a reasonable menu for most travelers. Wine selection rather limited , friendly and helpful staff and situated in a nice peaceful location. For travelers not wishing to go to Bergerac centre for a meal you could certainly do worse than pay a visit here. Approx three miles from Bergerac itself and two miles from the airport.

We chanced on this cafe in the Place Pélissière of Bergerac and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The food is all organic. Both the soup of the day and the dahl were very tasty and filling. From chatting with the owner, they operated it as an ice-cream parlour for many years but have recently started doing a full range of food again. A good choice! They still do ice cream as well.
