Reviews on Contemporary food in Lake Como, Lombardy, Italy. A gorgeous spot that’s a convenient day trip from Milan, Lake Como recently earned fame as home to Hollywood star George Clooney. But celeb-spotting aside, it’s known for jaw-dropping natural beauty, elegant old villas—and the scenic towns surrounding the lake. Check out Varenna, Bellagio, and Menaggio, which offer great views, historic churches, and water-based activities such as ferries and passenger-only boats.

We had the classic menu with wine pairing for dinner, The price was very reasonable and the creativity for each course was outstanding. What made the pricing even more remarkable was an amuse bouche and petit fours (in addition to menu items) that more closely resembled food temples in Paris but at a "menu" price well under half that for a Michelin one star. Our impressions before the trip was that Como area would be overpriced and just basic Italian food, that may be true of Bellagio (which was a crowded mess) but not the rest of the area. Very highly recommend Materia if in the area, worth the trip.

After researching TA, I wanted to book a reservation here immediately since we were going on a Saturday night. I called the restaurant about three weeks before our travels and ended up communicating with chef Paolo through What's App. Paolo said the place was about 25 minutes from our hotel in Lezzeno. I didn't think that was a big deal until we arrived and the hotel said a taxi would be 90 euros ONE WAY to get there because it was winding roads and straight up hill. (Lesson learned, renting a car in Lake Como is probably a good idea). So I communicated with Paolo that it didn't make sense to pay 180 euros for transportation. He then quoted us a much lower price for both ways, and then sent Marina (his mom? not sure) to come get us. Now THAT is service! We had one of the best meals of our entire trip. Plus, the view!!! He split the Beef Carpaccio into two generous portions, same with the Pea and Mint Gnocchi. Both were fabulous. Then are main dishes were some of the most tender meat we have ever had; the Suckling Pig, and the Beef with Polenta. It was a nice change from all the fish we had been eating. The service was attentive and friendly (Paolo's girlfriend) and we got to visit with the family at the end. What and exquisite experience we had all around. I would highly recommend seeking a way to get to Bella Vista.Dear Mrs AmyThanks so much for a such of nice review. We hope maybe to see u again in the future. Thanks again from all us. All the bestPAOLO

Lovely little restaurant in old building. Have the Trout entree it was sensational. As was the apple tart. The risotto was not so exciting. A friendly authentic restaurant when you want to get away from the crazy crowds and tourist energy. Not easy to find but worth it.

I highly recommend Da Gigi. They offer an excellent menu with choices combining local ingredients with a bit of eclecticism. Moreover, extremely friendly and informative service is thrown in for good measure. I could not resist trying at least one of the antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci and I can confirm that they were all top-notch. The quality:price ratio was excellent.Dear badgertra, thank you for your words, we always try to do our best for our guests. It's a pleasure to know when they are happy for the experience in our restaurant. We hope to see you again,Da Gigi

Typical Lombard cuisine, pasta ravioli pizzocheri bread and cakes made ââby us! Great wine, Polenta, mushrooms, snails, game, cheese and taglieri.Coperto free!
This place has home made food which tastes perfectly delicious and it is made from scratch, the establishment is very clean including the restrooms and the people who work here are very friendly and nice to deal with, we were with a friend who spoke perfect italian thank god because we didn't see any English speaking people there, it looked like all were locals but anyways we LOVED OUR FOOD, definitely recommend this place to anyone who is in this town that probably not visited much by tourists since it seems everyone just make it to bellagio and forget about this town which is also pretty and worth the drive, I recommend you to eat here and try the pasta it is wonderful, congratulations to the owners for the prices, service and food. ArrivederciI am very glad of his words thank Daniela cook! See you soon !
