Reviews on Contemporary food in La Paz, La Paz Department, Bolivia. Sitting in a valley in the Andes Mountains, La Paz is the city that touches the clouds. The de facto capital of Bolivia, and sitting between 3300 and 4100 meters above sea level, La Paz is the highest capital city in the world. Rich with 19th century churches, museums of artifacts from the pre-Conquest era, precarious overlooks, and colorful markets, La Paz is truly unique. The Witches’ Market, in the center of the city, sells charms and potions for Aymara rituals, as well as souvenirs.

Popular is a casual destination for modern Bolivian food, located in the historic downtown area of La Paz, also known as "el casco viejo," around the corner from San Francisco church.
Arrived with great expectations, as the place was recommended by a friend. We arrived around opening, and was told that a table was available an hour after at 14.00 - totally fair as we did not show up to stand in line. The waiter started out giving us last week menu, one of the spoons was pretty dirty and it was showing that we were the last seating of the day. The waiter did a good job presenting the food, but the crispy chicken had to many elements. The skin was soft and the churros for dessert was like rubber. I would still recommend the place, it has a cosy atmosphere and nice food. But go there early as it seems that the prepared elements looses some finesse.

Organic, vegan and glutenfree. Fresh veggie bowl, fruity smoothies, quinoa burgers and sweet potato fries, vegan cakes and ice creams. Clean and cute. Good Wi-Fi and great, organic coffee. Menu is in english and staff speaks english!
We came from some busy days touring in bolivias altiplano. To find this awesome quiet sunny and friendly place was a real relief. We had the lemonade, smoothies and cake to keep us busy for the afternoon while relaxing on the small terrace and used the wifi to plan the rest of our trip. Can surely recommend.

Ona is a celebration of Bolivia's rich biodiversity and gastronomic traditions. Ona means "gift," in Pukina.
This place is fantastic. We ate there twice and we loved it both times. The staff is friendly and helpful. Wine list is small but very nice with several excellent Bolivian wines. Service is great. Start with a amuse buche which is imaginative. Every dish we had was excellent. Fresh home made pasta carbonara with interesting twist, grilled octopus. Everything had a Bolivian spin and cooked well.

My husband and I visited for dinner last week while staying in La Paz. The excellent reviews are well founded, it was a delicious and unique meal. We enjoyed some tasty cocktails (recommended by our host) and then had a mixed starter -the chorizo was amazing! I had local fish, my husband ate steak - both very nice and big portions! Absolutely stuffed by the end but a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Would recommend to anyone visiting La Paz! Thank you.
