I recently visited Field Guide based on some recommendations. I was happy to have visited. The location is good, based in downtown Halifax. The decor is well-done; the bathroom is whimsical. The restaurant specializes in cocktails so I went with that. Ask for Keegan - he is the mastermind behind the cocktails and he will look after you. The man is well-spoken, well-travelled and knows how to make some impressive hand-crafted drinks. Prices are fair. The cocktail menu is extensive. And the food menu gives you much to think about as well. Overall I would certainly consider coming back to Field Guide!

As a guest of the attached Barrington Hotel, I had a $10 credit to use at this restaurant. The menu offered a good variety of breakfast/lunch items, sandwiches and salads. I ordered the poached eggs over smashed avocado toast. Unfortunately, the eggs were overcooked (I ordered them over easy and they arrived well done). The hash brown potatoes were tasty. Atmosphere is bright and modern - more like an upscale diner. My server was very friendly, professional and attentive.

Halifax is blessed with quite a few excellent restaurants. Brooklyn Warehouse, in Halifax's Northern End, is more of a neighborhood venue, but serving good food and worth a visit. It has an excellent selection of wine and craft beer, fairly priced by avoiding the huge mark-ups that most restaurants use. Food-wise, our table enjoyed the following:-- Beer & Chorizo Steamed Mussels ($12) -- "Nova Scotia mussels, house-made chorizo, scallion, grilled baguette". Very good -- the chorizo had a little heat to it, but very enjoyable.-- Herbed Gnocchi ($23) -- excellent!-- Seared Flank Steak ($29)) -- done to perfection and a nice presentation--Seared Nova Scotia Salmon ($28) -- This salmon was a large serving, but surprisingly bland. Needed some spice to create more interest.Bottom line, a good place for dinner -- good food and wine in a casual setting. Recommended.

We have been going to Vines Pasta Grill for about 15 years now for family special events. This week we celebrated two family birthdays with 18 folks. The hosting was on par with what one can expect from much more expensive restaurants. Ian was friendly, patient and had a great sense of humour. Never intrusive but always attentive to our needs - customer service is obviously a high priority at Vines. Every plate was a delicious tasting and filling experience. More than one in our party went home with some left overs. We chose a nice Italian Red to accompany the pasta and a complimentary bottle of Champagne for the birthday table was an amazing surprize. As usual many were raving about Vine's renowned Caesar Salad, a must have for new patrons. I would recommend Vines Pasta Grill to Halifax visitors and local folks who want a romantic dinner for two or that want to hold a large family event that won't break the bank. This is quality cuisine that keeps us coming back year after year! As stated in another review, this truly is a gem in Dartmouth/Cole Harbour. Bon Appétit!

Five friends had the most incredible lunch at this restaurant today! We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday girl always gets to choose the restaurant. We had all separately eaten there previously and always enjoyed it but today was even more spectacular. Gigi, our server is a gem and a naturally kind, friendly and so very efficient. I had mentioned that I didn't like the soup of the day which went along with my choice of sandwich. She went to the kitchen and within minutes returned to ask if I liked another kind and said that would also be offered. How often does someone take the time or care enough to do something like that. And it says volumes for the chef, owner, etc. to be so customer focused and wanting to please everyone. The food was absolutely amazing, so beautifully presented and the flavors were off the chart delicious! Fabulous on all levels! Thank you for such an incredible dining experience.
