Known this place for three years now and love it! It's a nice and cozy place to hangout with some friends, read a book, have a chai and enjoy some tasty food. I personally love the different kind of porridge they have for breakfast and my partner loves the homemade granola with fresh cow milk. For lunch or dinner I mostly have the glass noodle salad with honey mustard sauce (the best!) or the crepe with tofu spinach pesto. My partner loves also the chai (strong) and the meatless burger. They do water refill which I appreciate a lot, much better for the environment! The Pacha Mamma crew is always friendly, they love music so sometime there is a unplanned jam starting, they are always up for a chat and they serve good food! It's a place you have to check out :)

Returning to McLeodganj after a hectic day of sightseeing in Dharamshala, my husband and I were eager to have coffee and decided to stop at the much-talked about Illiterati café. However, this place was packed and we were told that we would have to wait for ten minutes. The young man behind the counter, however, suggested that we go and wait at their âbranchâ (I donât think he called it that, but itâs the best way to describe it) just a couple of stores further down. He mentioned that it also served coffee and cake. This space is called IlliteratiâThe Other Space, and itâs not just an extension of Illiterati; it also functions as a space for other purposes: a private office space, for example, can be hired here by the hour. And when we visited, the main space, which is otherwise very barebones (and therefore perfect for this sort of thing) was hosting an exhibition of photos of the Tibetan diaspora by David Zimmermann. The portraits were so stunning that even though I was dying for coffee, I went around and had a look at the exhibition before venturing towards the little counter which acts as the display/cash/etc.They do sell some basic sandwiches, cakes, coffees and teas here, but I suppose not as many as at Illiterati. Since we were interested only in coffee and cake, that was what we ordered: carrot cake and cold coffee for me, hot cappuccino for my husband, a chocolate mousse cake for our child, all of which cost us Rs 500. We sat on the narrow balcony which runs along outside (the seating inside is very sparse, and a little too low for our likingânone of us like sitting on sofas or low chairs). The balcony offers a splendid view of the snowcapped mountains, so this was a bonus. (It does have one disadvantage: midway through our mini-meal, the stench of garbage or sewage began drifting up from the narrow back lane that runs along under the balcony). But the cakes were excellent, and both large portions. The carrot cake was moist and well flavoured with cardamom, plus it had the type and quantity of frosting I like: not too sweet, not too rich, not too much. The chocolate mousse cake was luscious and not too sweet. My cold coffee was good, too. From what I saw of the very crowded Illiterati in the minute or so we were in there, I ended up being pleased that we had to opt for the more peaceful The Other Space instead. Recommended if you want a quieter place, away from the busy crowds.
