Reviews on Contemporary food in Franschhoek, Western Cape, South Africa. The village of Franschhoek (French Corner), tucked into the Cape Winelands of South Africa, is known as the country's food and wine capital. Galleries and antique shops fill the tree-lined streets, and vineyards established more than 300 years ago cascade over the hills just outside town. Local activities range from wine-tasting tours to trout fishing and hiking. The Huguenot Memorial Museum honors the town's early settlers, who fled religious persecution in France.

Modern unique and fresh cuisine from a world of tastes. Specialising in local South African dishes. Doing breakfast lunch and dinner. Also specialising in tapas style food and cocktails. Speciality coffee and home baked cakes. All produce fresh and local.
This is a tourist town and stop for many tour groups with numerous dining choices up and down the main street, and I looked at many before selecting Cafe Franschoek. I was very pleased with my choice as they had exactly what I was looking for. Wine, pate and quiche. Had a nice table on the shaded patio, nice local wines, and superb food with excellent service. Inside is very quaint and would be very nice on cooler days.

Mezze style relaxed dining at your pace not ours. Indoor/Outdoor seating with beautiful green lawns, children's play area under century old Oak trees. A relaxed menu artfully prepared with fresh picked daily produce from our own organic garden. All served
Oak trees, inviting green lawns, an inspired menu with fresh farm produce, masterfully delivered through a collaboration between The Franschhoek Beer Co partner Reuben Riffel. A small menu, however a great selection of dishes, and the food is delicious! fast service and great staff.Thank you for your very positive review and we hope to see you again soon.
At Arkeste we present seasonal ingredients by revisiting classic techniques in a fresh , contemporary manner.
Chef Richard Carstens is able to delight with his cuisine. Richard is in a business partnership with successful chef Reuben Riffel. This place at Chamonix in Franschhoek, deserves a visit. Newly opened Arkeste, replacing the old Chamonix Restaurant, is a wonderfully designed place. Its cellars, its placing, its views, are just superbly thoughtout. Samantha arranged a wonderful wine tasting. Manager Jeremy and his team are very efficient and give you a warm welcome. Well designed to be appreciated both in warm and cold weather, this is a place that deserves a visit. We were delighted. We will certainly be back!

We spent tonight at the Haute Cabriere Restaurant for dinner. The welcome was nice. Beautiful scenery. Good wine. But the food was just standard. Nothing special. The service we had was not really attentively. Hello Mick Thank you for the feedback. If you can supply more detail to [email protected] we can address your experience. The Haute Cabrière team.

In the heart of Franschhoek, the acclaimed Monneaux Restaurant offers freshness, creativity, and generosity on every plate, without compromising on technique or elegance. Headed by visionary young chef Calvin Metior as of November 2019, this stalwart of t
Unfortuunately we selected the Tasting Menu. It looked fantastic, in terms of the description, but unfortunately the food itself was very average. I wish we had tried the Tapas instead. Staff were great, really helpful and the shuttle bus back into town is very helpful.

Welcome to Franschhoek, one of the culinary hot spots on the African continent. Our estate restaurant - Franschhoek Kitchen, is rated one of the valley's leading restaurants. Franschhoek Kitchen's standards are based on the best international cuisine but
We visited this restaurant about 12 months ago and had a very enjoyable experience, with excellent food. What a difference a year makes! On arrival today, we were handed menus but the waiter immediately informed is that half the things on it were off. The substitutions didn't sound too appetising: "Canelloni." "Yes, with what?" "No, cannelloni. It's Italian and vegetarian." "Right...."My wife and I both ordered Vichyssoise, which, when it arrived, was delicious. But it was garnished with a blob of cold cheese (panacotta?) and tiny onion rings, which were stale - awful. Then my wife had a second starter, mussels, well enough cooked, but in a very sweet sauce, which simply didn't work. I ordered tuna, which came grilled the way I like it, but on a bed of saffron tomato - a thick melange of very powerfully flavoured red gloop, which completely overwhelmed the delicate texture and taste of the fish. I ended up scraping the tuna off its red bed - nasty. Someone in the Franschhoek Kitchen is trying too hard to tweak or modernise classic dishes whilst not paying enough attention to both detail and balance of flavours. We accompanied all of this with the Holden Manz Chenin Blanc 2018 - a well-built wine which worked well, despite the food. This is a wine estate which makes excellent wine - especially their reds. Total bill, including tip, ZAR750.00, which for Franschooek, one of South Africa's more expensive villages, was about what we expected. But not for food of this poor quality.Dear Chris G, thanks for sharing your feedback. Weâre sorry your experience didnât match your expectations. It was an uncommon instance and we always strive to do better. We are currently shifting from our winter to spring menu, hence new dishes appearing on the menu. Please feel free reach out to [email protected] with any further comments, concerns, or suggestions you wish to share. Kindest RegardsGavin LewisRestaurant Manager

Twelve years of history, moments and memories, in one brand new location. Welcome to the restaurant home of South African chef Reuben Riffel!
The Reuben story is well known across Africa. He grew up in a township near Franschhoek and through hard work and help he has become something of a " rock-star" chef with media appearances and several restaurants. Good hearty helpings combine with wonderfully presented dishes. We found the restaurant accoustics something of a challenge with the building unhelpful for quiet conversation . Typically friendly South African welcome .
