Located in a small non-descript town, from outside the restaurant does not impress, but inside there is a nice modern design, elegant but still casual. Very good design.Nice garden seating area. The food is really excellent. I had as a starter the scallops- wow, not only it looked great but it was extremely tasty. As main dish I had the veal which was excellent as well, the dessert strawberry with ice cream was very good as well, but the best dessert was the sorrel sorbet which was absolutely top! Overall the food is really excellent and is at least at one star Michelin level.Ver good wine list, of course with lots of German wines from the region.Service was casual but friendly. What would have made the experience even better: no one asked at the end of the lunch if we were happy - a gesture that could make a difference.Price level for food is good for the quality you get. Only the wines are a bit overpriced for Germany. Concussion: great experience, I can highly recommend this restaurant for food lovers who love a casual but nice environment.

The café is located within the Merian Garden and at the rear of the Villa Merian. As you walk around and behind the Villa you see the café and the stunning view of the lily pond and all of the green space. The lovely young hostess that assisted me was most welcoming during my short visit to this charming spot within the park. The atmosphere of the place is most impressive to relax. I stopped in for a quick beverage as I was touring through the park. I ordered a hot fruit tea which was served with a small biscotti. They also have salads, pasta, hot & cold beverages, beer, wine, a nice assortment of desserts and more. Magazines and newspapers were available for guests. There were clean customer restrooms.Make sure to go inside to view the immaculately designed corner room with gold trim, a mirror and ceiling painting. Just stunning! Highly recommended.Dear FormerCaliBoyThanks a lot for your positive review. We always appreciate to astonish our guests with unexpected little highlights and will be pleased to see you again at our stunning park and restaurant.Kindest regardsSimon Kohler

What a great surprise. Â Gasthof Muhle is tucked away in Aesch near Basel. Â It is a Michelin recommended restaurant for 2012 and well deserving of the recognition. Â My wife, son and I went there for Mother's day. Â We were greeted by friendly waiters in black and white uniform in a restaurant split by a remarkable wine display case and fresh flowers on every table. Â As our Swiss German is horrible, we were served by the manager, Jean-Daniel Moix, who is fluent in Swiss-German, French, and English. Â We learned that Mr. Moix spent eight years abroad as a chef, was a chef at this restaurant (evident by a painting of him in chef attire on the wall of the restaurant) and now is the restaurant manger for the last 3 years. Â The food was the best meal I have had so far in Basel. Â We start with a complementary taster of a wine/mushroom terrine with fresh cheese and potato salad. Â My starter was a delicious mini puff pastry with fresh asparagus, garnished with pesto, alfelfa sprouts and parsley. Â My main was outstanding...A duo of perfectly grilled beef in red wine sauce and veal in a morels mushroom sauce. It came with crispy dauphinois potatos and fresh assorted vegetables. Â For dessert, we had homemade rhubarbs sorbet with fresh strawberries in a yummy sabayon cream sauce. Â For digestifs, they role out a nice cart of whiskey, cognac, and port for selection. Â For 3 courses it was only 58chf, very reasonable for Swiss standards. All in all,no boring Swiss food here, just great dishes full of flavor and tasty delights. Â It is a local treasure and a must visit for expat foreigners like myself who appreciate great tastes.
