Discover Restaurants offering the best Contemporary food in Anchorage, Alaska, United States. Set amid the coastal Chugach Mountains, Anchorage defies popular visions of polar ice caps and frozen tundra. It’s also warmer than you think (averaging 65 degrees in summer), making conditions ideal for sight-seeing or taking on uniquely Alaskan opportunities like arctic biking or touring the fjords of Prince William Sound. In the winter, you can ski, dogsled or do both simultaneously by "skijoring," which is cross-country skiing while being towed by a dog. Hey, it's no crazier a winter sport than the biathlon.

A wonderful restaurant in downtown Anchorage, Alaska serving creative breakfast and lunch dishes to locals and tourist alike. Make sure to check out our extensive beer and wine list.
Some reviews compliment the food but I am unable to review the lunch I purchased because after waiting one hour and twenty minutes I had to leave to meet an arriving flight. We arrived at 1:10 p.m. on a Sunday, got on a list for a party of 2, and were told that the wait to be seated would be 20 minutes. 30 minutes passed and I checked and saw my name had been crossed off the list but we never heard my name called although sitting 10' from the front counter. When seated at 1:45 we ordered immediately as I needed to leave at 2:30 p.m. to meet a flight. I explained this to our server. We were told the meal would take 30 minutes (Kale dish and eggs Benedict). We decided to wait but 45 minutes later we had not been served so I asked that the meals be boxed, paid the $49.50 bill for same, and gave them to my guest. Perhaps the food is good. I will never now. The service and organization here however is seriously lacking.

Downtown award-winning restaurant specializing in American cuisine with a modern approach. Small plates, extensive wine list, creative cocktails.
We enjoyed the halibut and crab tartine along with the steamed buns for an appetizer. Delicious! Great service and fun vibes inside. A wonderful meal in Anchorage. My only feedback - You all might consider dimming the lights just a touch - it was pretty bright for 7p dinner!

We had a group of five that was family and a friend. We all enjoyed a variety of Asian inspired dishes plus a variety of mixed drinks including some specialties of the day. There is a modern upscale feel to the decor and we overall had a good experience. We went there late for our dinner on a Friday so there was no wait. It was during the heatwave in July and it was a little too warm in there.

We simply wanted a quick bite to eat near our hotel and this one fit the bill. Didn't know quite what to expect but, although crowded, we were seated within a minute or two. And then came the meal, a simple hamburger and french fries, but when we bit into our hamburgers we were transfixed! Someone once said that the sign of a great chef is when they can make simple food taste fantastic! This chef can do it. Kudos to him or her. Possibly the best hamburger I've ever had in my life!

Wonderful setting, polished service, fine cuisine and extensive wine list (some 435 selections, inventory of 6,200, strong in California wines; we had a fine Paul Hobbs 2016 Russian River Valley Chardonnay, $85). The original house was built in 1916 by the Alaska Railroad for management personnel. The founders had an active catering business doing festivals events when they decided to create a permanent home in 1979. They turned it into an intimate restaurant with just 46 seats, with 14 tables in two rooms, with almost a New England feel, naming it for the klutzy Marx Brothers comedy team they resembled when moving into the new space, according to their website. We had a table by window at the back of the house and watched the Chef and staff running back and forth from prep room at the back of the build (and also wine storage, given the small size of the house). We enjoyed the pan-seared Kodiak scallops ($45), in a roasted vegetable and tomato sauce, with fried polenta and sautéed morel mushrooms, a combination that worked well with the different flavors and textures. Our other entrée was fresh salmon with couscous, another winner. They touted their Caesar salad ($14.50 per person), made table side with fresh garlic, anchovies and raw egg, but it lacked parmesan cheese and the dressing was bland. We almost opted for two interesting appetizers (sautéed halibut cheeks, $18; and the Neapolitan seafood mousse, $17.50, layers of Maine lobster, smoked salmon and smoked halibut served with toast points, red onion gremolata and American caviar), based on recommendations by our server. And will should we have the opportunity to visit again.

This place is a real gem. The food is first-rate, and the presentation outstanding. Service is wonderful. I recommend Jen's if you find yourself in Anchorage.
We specialize in coastal-cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood, gluten-free, and vegan. We feature locally sourced menu items whenever possible, including meat, pasta, and produce. Our inclusive venue has something for everyone (including kids).
We found this restaurant on Open Table whole visiting Anchorage and decided to try it based on reviews. We did not really know what to expect, but looved the whole experience. We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your whole experience. We love our guests, and hope to see you again soon!
