China One

Chinese restaurateurs aré unwaveringly strict with their business approach. Very little emotional displays, or exuberant demonstrations beyond their established system of operation. Is that why they tend to be successful most of the times? As to for their food, it is no big surprise is a pre conceived formula, as well. Give the Americanos what they crave, which is usually large amounts of sweet dishes, that as a lot of people also knows, the Chinese does not partake in the food they successfully sell. Delivery, Pick-Up, Dine in, they move fast and do not even blink an eye. Most Chinese restaurants are hard to differentiate from one another. Sweet and Sour Pork here, or there, what's the difference?Decided to try China One for our first time, so we drove 12 plus miles till we got there in Wildomar, CA. Place is more for takeout and delivery, than anything else. A good flow of patrons around 7 PM. At least 6 Chinese cooks on the line (no chefs here), plus additional help. I, for one, love to see Chinese at the helm, than other nationalities where Chinese food is concerned, so I was happy as we took one of the few tables. Our Waitress/Server was personable and looking good in the black outfits favored by all.One little paper napkin each indicated tight inventory control. Food:Egg Rolls, $1.95 for 2, ordered double. No meat, but very tasty and crispy. Sweet sauce accompanying. 4 Stars.Fried Chicken Won Ton, (12), $4.55. Plump, Crispy, a welcome surprise that beat 99% of what we sadly had consumed in the past. 4 Stars.BBQ Sliced Pork, $5.75. Covered in the well known deep red sauce, excessively so, plenty of it, and edible. When in passing I commented on the amount of sauce, and brought up the example of the same dish served in Sam Woo, in Irvine CA, he replied theirs was the Americanized version, so I shut up. 3.5 Stars.Hot & Sour Soup (Seafood) $6.75. Not bad but in need of more of the basic ingredients, that make this soup special. Still, for the money, not a bad choice (if imitation crab is not a deal breaker), very nice colors and flavor average. 3.5 Stars.Curry Chicken, $9.55. Appreciated, although somewhat oily, person that wanted it said okey. A little on the spicy side. 3.5 Stars.Beef Pepper Steak, $9.55. These people can tenderize a section of rawhide with no problems, so attempting to categorize the cut of beef is next to impossible. Flavor strong, but with the heavy chunks of Green Bell Peppers al dente, and apparently zero condiments, it evened out. Ratio: Bell Peppers 70%, Tender Beef, the rest. 3.5 Stars.House Chow Mein, Beef, Chicken, and Shrimp, $8.95. This type of selection has been a dead end as far as quality is concerned, and if anything, noodles now a days seemed to be getting thicker, and overtaking the little extras they serve. So big plate of color noodles, so easy to make with no significant skills in play. 3 Stars.Paper cups, one very small napkin, decent water, passed on the pieces of stale, crispy whatever else is called. At least Mexicans offer Chips & Salsa. Reinforces the belief that what the dish out, they definitely do not consume.Decent service, got 15%. Not one superior than the rest. 3.5 Stars.

Panda Express

Since I last reviewed this restaurant, I've been in a few times. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Unfortunately, we don't have any other Asian food establishments close by.One of the items I had was the chicken and green beans. The beans were mushy and slimy. I should have followed my own advice and asked for something that had to be cooked fresh. (This wasn't the first time I had mushy beans.) Sometimes the staff are friendly and on the ball; other times, not so much. Today, it was a "not so much" day. I wonder if the variation has to do with whether the manager is in or not. There were no lids for the drinks; I had to go to the counter to get one. Panda Express, you've had numerous chances. I'm done. I'll drive a bit further to Pick Up Styx.

Very stupid business model. Don't waste your money. It's fast food, cheap Chinese, with zero service, not even enough menus for the counter, they're SO CHEAP! But not the food...VERY EXPENSIVE. Soup for one starts at $9, noodle dishes $12+, entrees $14. AND NO SERVICE! I can't believe anybody would pay for that, but they do. Oh yeah, dirty tables since they don't pay anyone to serve. Walked out...won't return
