What a great choice for a Friday night meal after a few early cocktails in the village of Ponteland. Walked in to book the table at 5.30pm for a 8pm meal and no hassle at all, very accommodating and great welcome. Opted for a set meal for 3 and we were not disappointed....Crab and sweetcorn soup to start the ball rolling with plenty of prawn crackers, followed by the wonderful Aromatic duck served with pancakes and a great selection of Salt and pepper chilli king prawns (delicious) then onto the mains Beef fillet in a tangy cantonese sauce - served on a hot plate, Chicken in a garlic chilli sauce (this was nice but the weakest of the three dishes, and Yeung chow fried rice King prawns in szechuan sauce, unbelievable tastes and plenty for three adults, finished off with fresh orange. Definitely top quality and felt satisfied with amount as sometimes after a chinese meal we have been left feeling hungry as dishes are full of vegetables rather than meats/fish....not the case at this place. Will definitely be returning soon and management in the restaurant is spot on with staff very quick to respond to your requests. We ate here on a Saturday night and didnât need to book as we came in late.The restaurant was about half full so it didnât take long to get our drinks and food served and the staff were nice and friendly.Our food was all tasty and hot, the salt & pepper chilli king prawns were particularly good!I like to be constructive so the things Iâd change to make this restaurant five stars are the decor, new wallpaper would transform the dining room. The choices of wines by the glass, Iâd liked to have had two or three wines to choose from and know what they were, and Iâd have paid more for them. Iâd also have liked a nicer wine glass. Finally, as much as I like Elton John and Coldplay, you canât beat Chinese music in a Chinese restaurant, it adds to the ambience.The toilets are very good by the way, clean and modern.There are lots of good things about this place and if youâre looking for a tasty meal thatâs good value then itâs the place. In the New Year we plan to redecorate the restaurant as the current decor is about 6 years old now.We do sometimes play Chinese music but do try to change the play list as often as possible.I am pleased you enjoyed the food and service and we all look forward to your return to Princess Garden.

Went for buffet meal, no buffet in sight?Told to order from menu at set price of £17.50 each...scandalous!Can't wait until August 14th, as that's when Smithy Square takeaway is back open!Hi there, We think you must have misunderstood our buffet style that we offer. We do cooked-to-order ala carte menu. We cook the food from fresh when you order from the menu and you eat as much as you can. The buffet dishes are not laid out on warmers as most buffet restaurants do, so you will always have hot freshly cooked dishes. The menu is very popular, and well known by local residents. Thank you.
