We went Ryunabe after our first day of ski. We splurged with the wagyu beef and picked the chinese Fish maw soup base and the spicy soup base. The set also came with fish balls, udon and vegetables. While the price is on the high end, the meal was excellent. The place is a bit hidden behind the Hyatt hotel, but definitely highly recommended if your budget allows.

It’s a good restaurant and with affordable prices. It is near Kutchan station about 8min walk. Drink special is great with 1500 JPY you can have unlimited drinks. And there are more specials to choose from. Restaurant environment is warm and cozy and food taste great.Mix of Chinese, Japanese, Italian there is a bit for everyone. This place is good for groups and couples. Only reason why I have this restaurant 4 is I think service can be improved, staff are great but they get frantic and forget things if foreigner walks in. And they are quiet young so they need a little seriousness but the service was good. Just picking on small things I observed. I have already been to this restaurant twice and I would definitely go again. Smoking area is outside the restaurant which is great.

Upstairs from the White Rabbit Bar, Dragon Pot was a great little discovery. When we went, it was easy to get a table with little notice - no mean feat in Hirafu in peak season. The staff are warm and welcoming, and the banquet menu was a ripper. We opted for the standard banquet, which started out with of a generous portion of sashimi - salmon, scallop, octopus and a delicate white fish. DEEELICIOUS. But the main event was the hot pot itself. Here we went for the most local of soup bases, Hokkaido Milk, and this was furnished with the most tempting array of meats and vegetables for us to simmer in the milk. Wagyu and local short rib, both heavily marbled, pork shoulder, white fish, squid, and veggies galore, finished off the some home-made spinach dumplings and udon noodles. We each cooked our ingredients for anything from 10 seconds to a minutes, and then prepared our own dipping sauce from a selection of ingredients, including sesame, soy, chives, chili and garlic. It was AHMAZING. And plentiful. Moderately priced for Hirafu, but excellent value. I seriously wonder what the deluxe version would have entailed.
